  1. I don't know how easy it will be to find, but a great sideman date is "Ella in Hollywood".
  2. Final price: $382.26
  3. This looks like it's turning into a nice little investment: Mosaic Records - "Complete Anita O'Day Verve/Clef session"
  4. Free is on a ROLL tonight!
  5. I'm not bashing either one. In fact I specifically explained earlier in this thread that I hated the band as much as anyone for the past 30+ years. Yet after watching an interesting Charlie Rose interview w/Plant a couple of years ago, I decided to take a second look at what I had been ignoring for all this time. Surprisingly (to myself, anyway), I found that there were a lot of well crafted songs and powerful performances that I had missed out on. Without hype and baggage that these guys carried throughout the Seventies, it's not so hard to appreciate them as a very tight working band. And believe me, as a young guy in his teens/twenties during that time, I got a face-full of their PR obnoxiousness. Anyway, I made a point of picking up 2 live sets - "BBC Sessions" and "How the West Was Won" - to get a perspective on what they did with the music in concert. Quite eye-opening for me. They made a point of structurally changing many pieces in some really interesting ways. I would recommend to anyone with a passing interest in re-exploring these guys to get hold of "West" as it may actually be one of their best albums. I also rented "DVD" which has some great footage and performances. One of these days, I'll even wade into the sludge that is "The Song Remains The Same" as there's a new remastered/expanded edition that might make it a worthwhile purchase. Well......that's my LZ rant for now.
  6. I always thought of Aerosmith as Stones wanna-bes. The lips on the singer? Two guitars? The drug habits? What is it? Yep. All those ... and more (like the songs).

  8. Does this answer the question? In this four disc set,Mosaic has gathered all of Pres' solo efforts made with Count Basie in a series of classic recordings from the Columbia family of labels. In addition to all the Basie small group and big band sessions with Pres's solos, ... perhaps it does, if it means incomplete sessions because on certain tracks, Lester is heard only in the ensemble, then that'll be a real pity. I'd really want a complete Basie Coulmbia set. Do we need another incomplete set ? I'd don't know this music well enough to know if this approach would lead to incomplete sessions being issued. It certainly has happened on the Chu set where a fair number of sessions are abbreviated where Chu isn't heard enough to merit inclusion in the set under his name. You could always email Mosaic. I'm sure they'll have an answer.
  9. Blues-wise.......yes.

  11. If we can have "Night in Tunisia", then we can have ...
  12. Good-ster, there's the ENTIRE "Presence" album climaxing with the nearly-ten-minute "Tea for One". ... and let's not forget the 11-minute "In My Time of Dying" on "Physical Graffiti". [Disclaimer: I hated this band for most of the past 30 years, after about their 2nd album. But something clicked for me about 2 years ago with these guys. I think it was a Robert Plant interview on the Charlie Rose Show. And I suddenly "got it". Now I can't STOP listening to them.]
  13. I think we all would, but Joe's a little bit unavailable.
  14. From Free For All I received:
  15. Of the fusion years, I thought "Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy" was one of the best. Of course, it happens to be the only Bill Connors album.
  16. Or with Zombie Joe Farrell! With all of the advances in medical technology these days, it's only a matter of time. I guess they could always "sample" him.
  17. Now there's a good idea... If I was a musician I'd hire you as a producer any day, Brooks! Cool! When do I start?
  18. Much better if Chick revived the original RTF (Flora, Airto, etc), with someone like George Coleman on tenor.
  19. Type here Happy Birthday!
  20. As long as we can drink beer and call each other names. The only way I'd show up. ... and if the beer is cheap.
  21. How about starting with a "virtual conference" using the "Live Chat" feature? We might be able to drum up some interest in a "real" conference after a day or two of discussion about time, place, price, etc.
  22. eMusic just added "Up the Downstair (Special Edition)" and "On the Sunday of Life" ... and removed "Signify" (that's ashame). Of course, it might not have been emu's decision.
