  1. Fantastic. One of the resident leftists has taken note of my signature and is offended, because demonizing the opposition is perfectly fine if you are a lefty, but ... well, you know the rest. On what basis? Do you believe that no one (or perhaps no right-winger) should be paid such a salary? Or do you really believe that Rush doesn't make Clear Channel so much money that his salary isn't acceptable to the ownership because they make more than that in selling air time? Do you think they have set up a charity for talented right-wing talk radio hosts, and just want to enrich Rush regardless of the consequences for their corporation? Or maybe you think its just unfair that he should be paid so much and so many dime-a-dozen announcers should get pink slips? Cry me a river. Rush is making them so much money that they are buried in debt and have to fire people. I can't respond to the rest of your statement because it doesn't make sense.

  5. I hope they also reduce the $400 million they are paying Rush Limbaugh.
  6. The Butcher shows in Baltimore were the high point of the concert year for me, at least so far (I don't expect to see them superseded). This album just out on No Business and quite fine:

  8. The debt didn't just fall out of the sky; these mopes incurred it in highly leveraged buyouts (read: they didn't actually have the money to do it) of smaller chains and independent stations (you know, the guys who actually introduced us to much of the music we love). Having destroyed much of radio in this country, they are now busy destroying themselves, which is a good thing really, but I feel sorry for the people who lost their jobs. In a way, this move is a tacit admission that the dreck that Clear Channel programs needs no introduction. One hopes that CC collapses completely; perhaps new forms of radio can then emerge.
  9. Listening to the Cien Fuegos reissue of Brotzmann, Van Hove, and Bennink LP, TSCHUS, originally released as FMP 0230, 1975. Sounds fine and a most welcome reissue for fans of Brotz, FMP, etc.

  11. Snowing heartily in DC. Was not supposed to be more than few flakes, per "forecast." .
  12. I don't know this one Leeway, but Lytle always brings a smile and a happy feeling. Thanks John. I also had not seen this LP until a week or 2 ago, despite many years of LP hunting. Had to get it, and the price was in Great Finds territory. I also picked up this too, and just listened to it. Prestige 8246, blue label Prestige, 203 S. Washington Ave. Very heavy vinyl. I think this was a definite Great Find.
  13. Trying to get my own groove back after a long, tough week. This is fun stuff:

  18. I ordered the Liszt box from them. Took a full 6 weeks to arrive! Sent sack mail. One would hope that with a smaller item they will spring for a faster shipping method. Still, 2 weeks would not be unusual based on my experience with other UK outfits..
  19. Just bantering a bit, I thought good-humoredly. My pants are firmly belted, at least for now....
  20. I went back as re-read the article. What I found was that Fox News violates every precept of dignity in the article!
