Hey, now it's not doing it! Oh well...

Whoa, Rooster Ties! Way-cool looking avatar! What's that from? Did you create it?

I like so many of those previously mentioned: Bjork-fantastic in concert; and her videos are groundbreaking! Mad Season-Layne Staley will be missed-also AIC of course! Pearl Jam-seen 'em a couple times-the first time the best; in '92 with Dave Abruseeze (sp?) on drums-this was like seeing 5 horses galloping in perfect unison-(Man I was a loser back then, couldn't get a date-still have unused ticket! ) and some not yet mentioned: Blake Babies/Juliana Hatfield/Lemonheads- really love all of this stuff-it's a shame most involved became completely derailed by their brush with stardom, though the BB reunion record is great and I heard Evan Dando recently got his shit back together, which is great news cuz I think he writes great, fun songs. Juliana was gonna be really big, but she rebelled, big time. The Sundays-great songwriting duo, that Gavurin/Wheeler team. I've devoured everything I could find by this band and would like to know just what the problem is: Where have they gone??? Harriet Wheeler's voice is like an angel from heaven, IMO. The Cranberries-loved the first couple albums/b-sides. Who knew they'd become such a cheesy pop band? I know I'm forgetting some... Oh, and this other type of music I discovered in the late 90's...what was that?...oh yeah, JAZZ!!! Doesn't get much more alternative than that!

Okay, finally voted for Houses of the Holy. The Ocean is a monster! What a riff!!! And I like the shorter songs like D'yer Maker and Dancing Days. Dancing Days is just perfect-impossible to not play air guitar or drums! I avoided voting for the new live "How The West Was Won" but it is right up there! Totally slammin'! P.S. FYI, I believe the alternate title for Led Zep IV is "Runes", instead of "Ruins".

I think I must sadly admit that this could be true... Haven't voted yet...will soon The two Circuit City's I checked today were SOLD OUT of the DVD. The 3 cd live set filled my listening time today and it is as they say...totally killer! B)

Royal Flush, by a big lead (of these choices), followed by Into Something. That Donald Byrd cover just oozes Blue Note vibe!

A while back we were discussing the problem of the auto-login function not working for some of us, myself included. I just recently discovered that when I come to the BB via my bookmark, it displays the "you are not logged in" message at the top. But if I click on any forum topic, the next page shows me logged in!!! So I guess it's no longer a problem, at least not for me. B)

Oh Boy ! Oh Boy!! Oh Boy!!! P.S. Green with envy...

Great thread. I had a devil of a time getting registered back on the 'ol BNBB. I think I was doing it backasswards, concentrating on username versus screenname or something. Tried probably 50 different ones before it finally allowed me to use this one. I live in a town in Colorado named Parker. Kinda similar to using Steely Dan's "Parker's Band" title, but I didn't want to do that as I wanted to be somewhat original. So it's somewhat of an homage to Bird. I recall when I was 6 or 7 years old, circa 1971-72, I informed my friends and family that from that point forward, I would be known only as "Groovy"! Groovy Foley...the Irish hippie!

Thanks Hans! Now I know... Take 'er easy,

Jazz cd stores in the Orlando Florida area?
Parkertown replied to Parkertown's topic in Recommendations
Thanks Roundsound! No big deal, I was kidding with my second post above... We leave tomorrow, but the other day we found a place in Winter Park, FL on Park Ave called Park Avenue Compact Discs. Cool people, cool store, and I found about 5 oop Blue Notes there and good prices on new releases...like those new UMG (lpr series?) like the Jim Hall Live, Ayler, etc. for just $9.98! I spent $90 so that kinda blew my cd budget for a while! This thread on the AAJ board got a response where they called Central Florida a jazz wasteland... -

No one cares... -
I really like the sound on the Revolver cd. That's the only one I have of this series. Hey Hans, Aren't the dates you mention actually refer to the span of the release, like it's only available for 2 years...? That's how I've always interpreted those dates. I usually see them always span 2 years, on most Japanese releases/reissues.
-
Anyone know some good ones that specialize in Japanese imports? Thanks in advance, Later,

I think Hipnosis is on Alankin's Jazzmatazz site as coming out late 2003 or 2004. If that's the case... Anyone got a " 'Bout Soul" I can purchase? And I'll pass on the Moncur Select as well, since I have all but Hipnosis & 'Bout Soul.

OH MY GOD!!! That has to be some of the wackiest shit I've ever, ever read in my life! He's either a brilliant genius, or a whacked-out psycho-killer! Makes Wingy seem tame...though he's reformed now, no?

Thanks for all the tips everyone! (esp. you, BFrank!) Something else I just noticed is that the new version 2.0 of the Download Manager now limits the number of tracks or albums you may queue up. I just got halted trying to add a 4th album to the queue. Crap!!! I've loaded that puppy up with about 15-20 albums at once before...maybe that's why...

I've really enjoyed this series, as it was my first exposure to most of these artists. Will listen more this weekend before voting but... It seems I recall the last time I listened to the Watkins disc, it had a lot of digital artifacts in the sound of the horns, especially Mr. Watkins FH. You hear this kind of stammering sound on the horns that is very unnatural sounding, like a reverb-echo if that makes any sense. It's the same kind of sound I hear on Curtis Fuller's horn on the "Blue Train" cd. Very annoying, but I'll try to ignore it...

Well, I'm seriously considering it. I think they're beautiful paintings. Love the colors...

Comp. Miles Blackhawk up for pre-order
Parkertown replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Thanks guys! I was a little irked cuz I hoped you guys didn't think I was trying to start a format debate. I don't really do that. The only reason I asked at all, was as you can tell, I own the JSACDs of these titles. They follow the original albums, though now in unedited performances. But I'm quite interested in having all of these soon to be issued performances, but am TOTALLY sick of buying new remasters only to discover a SACD release 6-9 months down the road. I mean, am I the only one pissed about how Peter Gabriel's reissue program has panned out? Thankfully, I only bought "Security" and "So" last year when the Redbook remasters came out, an not the whole lot! If I'd done that, shit, I probably would return them to Peter myself, demanding explanations!! That's THE ONLY REASON I mentioned the dreaded acronym at all! But really, I appreciate your sentiments a lot. -
Can anyone direct me to the Publishing Co.'s
Parkertown replied to Johnny E's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Oh No! Totally lame, but totally funny! -
So far, I only have : Life is Splendid Music From Tomorrow's World (which I'm listening to now) Nothing Is Nuclear War I've really only given Life Is Splendid a serious couple of listens and I groove to that. I enjoy the energy; kept me motivated at work the other day. I need to spend more time with the others. I got these four through my subscription to Emusic. What's the consensus on these? I've read that John Gilmore produced powerful solos on the Sun Ra recordings; that interests me-what should I look for? Thanks guys!

Well, excuse the fuck out of me! Can't I even ask questions now? I wasn't trying to start a format debate. It was a yes or no question, nothing more. No one seems to mind when someone asks about a vinyl release. Hans said: "I'm still wondering why so many people kept taking the same bite over and over again on the old board... " Isn't that exactly what just happened, here? Here's an idea: Let's not talk about the old board anymore. Forget the past. Has Greg really traumatized all of you that badly?
