  1. For me, the DH in the NL is close to being a deal breaker. I've watched and been a NL fan all my life; I think the DH greatly changes the style of play, and I'm not sure if I want to spend a lot of time watching that kind of baseball.
  2. I love the rim-shots that Shaughnessy does throughout.
  3. There comes a time when baseball stops being baseball and turns into something else. Can't say I like too many of these proposed "improvements"
  4. Once saw Parker demolish Steve Yeager in a home plate collision. He was a great player. Those Pirates teams were fascinating.
  5. Tim Hecker: Ravedeath 1972
  6. I always thought Blue Train was much better in mono, too much of a stereo spread for me.
  7. It's a great day to be alive! Way more important that any NYC stuff!
  8. Hate to say this: Aaron Judge-Bryce Harper-Giancarlo Stanton. Pressure off Harper, he does his thing, Yankees Evil Empire reappears. Just thinking about it makes me want to go on a good old fashioned Yankee hater rant.
  9. Supposedly, the Nationals are still very much in the picture, though with Boros, he never says any team is out, no leverage in that.
  10. He sure as heck made a nice living off these players though, but that was just the used car salesmen coming through.
  11. Keep Bonds & Clemens out, but usher in Bud Selig with no problem, ridiculous
  12. Crap!! I didn't realize that Perry Robinson died! He was one of my favorites, I loved his playing on The Soul in the Mist, and his other work with Andrea Centazzo.
  13. Ulrich Schnauss & Mark Peters: Tomorrow Is Another Day
  14. Last Exit: Headfirst Into The Flames -- Live in Europe
  15. Sonny Sharrock: Black Woman
  16. Sonny Sharrock: Ask The Ages. Great album
  17. Bo Hansson: Lord of the Rings.
  18. A lot of baseball people over the years talk about how the way Billy Martin handled the 1981 Oakland A's staff, scared everyone off of the old-time, pitchers do complete games mentality. Just three years afterwards, and the pitchers were mostly done. Ever since, that staff has been held up as a prime example of the need to be careful. Billy Martin was a crazy genius, or maybe just a nut-case.
  19. I wonder if we'll ever see someone pitch over 300 innings in a season again, it used to be common.
  20. This Our Exile: Short Stories by Joshua Hern
  21. Might work with the small Philly park, Harper's numbers could get very high there. The Andrew McCutchen signing doesn't make sense, saw him all last year with the Giant's, and he's way past his prime. Seems to be a great guy to have on a team though, always gave it all on the field, we'll see if he has anything left in the tank.
  22. The Devil's Advocate by Morris West. I really didn't expect too much going into this book, just a light vacation read, but there is an old style humanism to it that I find attractive.
  23. Silence: A User's Guide: Volume 1 -- Process by Maggie Ross. Interesting how "mindfulness" and silence are hot topics in philosophy & spirituality now, it seems a ton of books are being released -- kind of a resistance movement against modern media, and the psychic toll they cause, that is taking place.
