  1. San Francisco Nighthawks S/T Shoutout to HutchFan for the inspiration, haven't listened to this one in ages.
  2. I was wondering about the movies, there's no way from what I've been reading that you can get three movies out of the book. I bought the first part of the Hobbit trilogy, it was on sale at Amazon Prime for $4.99, probably skip the second part, and wait for the third movie to come on sale.
  3. Mark-Almond Band S/T. One of those albums, that the minute you hear it, it places you in the 1970s
  4. The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. I was beginning the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but decided to backtrack and begin at the beginning. First time I've read it, and finding it very enjoyable.
  5. CTI Records -- The Cool Revolution
  6. Benny Carter: New Jazz Sounds - The Urbane Sessions
  7. Nicholas Payton: Sonic Trance. There's actually a very old thread about this album, from the mist of history. I still like it a lot.
  8. I always looked upon The Harper Brothers as one of those "what if" situations. In the liners to either this album or their first, they said they wanted to be this generation's Cannonball Adderley Quintet, and wanted to be together for years (at least that's what I remember), but after the above lp, they were no more. It was disappointing, as I thought they were very good and had great promise for the future, but like so much of 1990s jazz, it was not meant to be.
  9. Been listening to a lot of scruffy live recordings lately
  10. I've always loved this mix
  11. I desperately need to stop checking this topic, I see all these books I want to read, and not enough time!
  12. That does seem too young, and the poor guy suffered a lot because of his illness, and of just one play in his career. I was a red-hot Dodger fan back in the day, and remember him with the Dodgers, and he was good, in 108 games when he was 21. Though, in today's game, he would be looked upon as not so good, the wrong kind of stats, but it was a different game back when dinosaurs ruled the earth. RIP to a very good player.
  13. I get what you're saying. Spike Lee made the Knicks unwatchable for me. At least Jack Nicholson is chill about things, of course, there's not too much there to get excited about now.
  14. Nice game by Toronto, showed what a good team it is. As for the finals, if they don't win the first two games in Toronto, then I don't think they have a chance, as I can't see the Warriors losing the games in Oakland, which will be the last ones there before they move to San Francisco next year.
  15. Lord of the Rings. Read it many times growing up, and then, stopped for some reason. I realized the other day that it's been at least fifteen years since I last read the whole thing. looking forward to revisiting.
  16. Only one I've read was A Time To Keep Silence, and unfortunately, I was not impressed. There's just something about the outlook, the feel of how he looks at things that stuck me a bit off. It's just me, but I've never been a fan of "The Englishman On The Road" style books, Waugh's travel books leave me cold, and Hilaire Belloc's Journey to Rome was a no go for me.
  17. I happen to like them, kind of a trippy-prog-rock-Led-Zeppelin feel to them. If you have Apple Music, the essential Tame Impala Playlist is a very good introduction to their music. I like InnerSpeaker, think that's their best album.
  18. Basketball has got to be the toughest sport to referee, as has often been said, you can call a foul on every play.
  19. Plus, they had to overturn a shot clock violation because they missed the ball hitting the rim. I thought offensive interference was a reviewable call, even watching on tv, I thought the hand touched the ball over the rim -- but nothing done. Like I said: Interesting
  20. Sun Ra: The Space Age Is Here To Stay
  21. I have to say that the officiating was.... interesting last night. It was a throw-back to the 80s, let's get physical style. Not saying that it was bad, but definitely old school.
