  1. It really is a great movie. I discovered Powell & Pressburge movies about a year ago, and I've really fallen in love with them. There is a powerful humanism that runs through their films that I find attractive and enriching.
  2. A Matter Of Life And Death. Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger made strange but wonderful movies...
  3. A Night to Remember. Walter Lord. Started reading on April 15, the 107th anniversary of the sinking.
  4. Loved her on the MTM show, and I'm surprised that she was only 70. RIP
  5. Dear Larry:

Thanks for cleaning up the mess on the Notre Dame thread. Can't say I was surprised by the post, as I remember how that member was when speaking about religion when we did have the Political forum.

    Thanks again!

  6. Sad and terrible! The one time I was there, I was in such awe of the place, so much history, so much greatness passed through its door.
  7. There was a mutual influence going on. Not top down, or down up. In other words: It was like real life.
  8. A Hard Day's Night. I know it's lighter than a feather, but I love this movie, and have a mixed bag of emotions every time I watch it.
  9. The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions by Mark Lewisohn. Good book, though a sad experience buying it today. I bought it at Half-Price books in Concord, and discovered that the store has been kicked out by the landlord, looking for a better payday from raising the rent sky-high. Why is it that book stores & record stores get treated with such contempt? Don't answer, we all know why: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  10. Max Richter: The Blue Notebooks
  11. Peru Bravo: Funk, Soul & Psych from Peru's Radical Decade.
  12. Greta Van Fleet: Anthem of the Peaceful Army. I've been reading that Van Fleet was the new, hot rock band, so I thought "why not?" Good Lord, not one original idea, but every recycled 1970s riff and cliche you can think of made it on the record... terrible, and scary if this is supposed to be where it's at.
  13. Well, The Beatles won out and I went ahead and bought this one. I've been becoming more interested in The Beatles as time moves on. Besides, if I don't like it, I can always sell in on the Hoffman Forums and get my money back.
  14. Might check the Steve Hoffman Forum on the book, I wonder if anyone there said anything about it?
  15. I've been debating whether to buy this or not -- convince me I need it!
  16. While doing some long distance driving yesterday: Flamin' Groovies: Shake Some Action. I've loved this since it first came out, every listen brings back a ton of memories. Roman Holliday: Cookin' On The Roof. Another blast from the past! Velvet Crush: Teenage Symphonies to God. I played all the hits during my drive-time.
  17. Les McCann: Invitation To Openness. It's one of my all-time favorite albums.
  18. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Star Trek - The Original Series Book 1). Enjoyed touching base with the original Star Trek, that I want to start to read the books. Book 1 is a Gene Roddenberry book treatment of the movie; it's better that I thought it would be.
  19. Star Trek: The Original Series -- The Cage. Falling in love with the Original Series again, it's fun and inventive. I remember all the episodes from watching it to death in much younger days, but it has aged well.
  20. Great that there's been a positive outcome! I've been following the thread closely, as my mother is getting to the same place in her life, so it's been helpful.
  21. My eyes hurt watching the stinking pile of stuff that is the SF Giants offense -- hopeless and clueless. 100 loss season on the way!
