  1. I have to get that. It's a perfect Kindle book, as it's a collection Smith's columns over the decades. Kindle price: $10.99.
  2. American Pastimes: The Very Best of Red Smith. Best taken in small doses, so the writing doesn't go by too fast, as most of what's contained are 800 word columns. Great writer though.
  3. Retirement will not be kind to him.
  4. You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me.
  5. Just a Facebook page
  6. I loved the way Nimoy caressed the wallet when it was in his hands.
  7. Happy birthday 1
  8. Happy Birthday !
  9. Man, Josh Hamilton.
  10. Gesh! I can't believe I said the Twins, I humble myself in sackcloth and ashes over that mistake!
  11. Every time I just think about Blanco & Perez screwing up that fly ball, I'm thankful that the Twins didn't send Alex Gordon. I'm still pissed off at them both, can you mess it up more than they did?
  12. Soren Kierkegaard: A Biography by Joakim Garff. A very long biography of Kierkegaard, but interesting.
  13. A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle. I have not read this book in ages, not since Jr. High, at least, and so when I reread it this time, I discovered how much of AWiT, especially the religious aspect, went over my head all those years ago. A very good book, which like all good "children's books" have a lot to say about adult life. The themes cover areas like family, trust, creativity, etc., and I must admit that I enjoyed it so much, I'm going on to read the rest of the A Wrinkle In Time Quintet.
  14. Baseball can't come soon enough, I'm sooooooooooooooo sick of the NFL!
  15. Hmm - that sounds a bit like the set up to Jeremy Gavron's An Acre of Barren Ground. I'll have to check that one out, thanks for posting it.
  16. Here by Richard McGuire. Just your great graphic novel, about a space of land through million of years, that's a meditation on life, death, love, humanity, and other things. Great book.
  17. Great venue for a show!
  18. The Azusa Street Mission & Revival: The Birth of the Global Pentecostal Movement by Cecil M. Robeck, Jr. Great history of the Azusa Street Revival, which tends to get overlooked in books on African-American history. Poor, African-American preacher goes to Los Angeles, starts the modern Pentecostal Movement, which now counts over 250 million people, it's an amazing story.
  19. This whole "deflate-gate" thing, and this whole season, has killed any further interest in the NFL for me, it's just so ridiculous now, that I'm done. Keeping with baseball, and that's it.
  20. Too bad, was an interesting man. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/posts/la-et-ms-kim-fowley-dies-obituary-20150115-story.html
  21. Well, it started out good, but half-way through, wound up being one of those books you finish just because you feel a sense of obligation. Not too insightful, and most of all, gave no sense of the person. Meh.
  22. Well, with three different picks, I guess we don't have to worry about next week! (But if we did, I'd be sticking to Dallas until they lose.) Still tied!
  23. Arizona Baltimore Indianapolis Dallas
  24. That's one weird looking word... Never seen it before.
