This is a question for the regular customers of CDUniverse. All these BN Connoisseurs can be preordered for $11.89 or 18.89 now. Do you know if they will still be at the same price if I order them just before they are released or are CDUniverse likely to increase the price as we get closer to the date of release?

Easy win for France tonight against the Faroe islands 3-0. The crunch is on Wednesday against Ireland in Dublin. Tough game but the comebacks of Zidane, Makelele and Thuram seem to have given the team a big boost. The horizon looks a bit brighter but it is still a long way to go.

Thanks to all of you for your help. There will be a few of these on my shelves very soon!

Canadian Forces on standby to help U.S. aid efforts Chief of Defence Staff General Rick Hillier said Thursday the Canadian Forces have been put on standby to help the United States deal with the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Gen. Hillier said he notified his American counterparts that Canada was prepared to offer whatever assistance was needed. He also noted that the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), which was deployed in the Asian tsunami earlier this year, was put on a one-hour notice in Kingston, Ont. “They have but to ask and we in the Canadian Forces would have it rolling or sailing or flying southward as quickly as possible,” he told reporters Thursday. Canada offered to transport goods in and out of the devastated region using Hercules aircrafts and helicopters. Gen. Hillier also offered electrical generators and drawing from experience in other disasters, like last year's tsunami, he said Canada was also prepared to establish water purification centres in the region. Canada offered small boats and diving teams to help recover bodies as well, he said “Their message back to me was very clear. Firstly it was a heartfelt thanks from their part.” Gen. Hillier said he was confident that if his U.S. counterparts needed help, they would ask. “In short, we want to be ready to go as soon as any need is identified that we may be able to fill,” he said. He said he also made the offer to the U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins. Earlier Thursday, Prime Minister Paul Martin called U.S. President George W. Bush, offering his condolences for the hundreds and perhaps thousands of those who died in hurricane Katrina. ← I am posting this link in French as I know a few of you can understand this language. It basically says that 20 countries have offered to help the US in different ways. It says that the US administration were reluctant to receive international help but that it has changed its mind since. It states that George Bush had first declared that the US will be able to get things sorted by themselves. Geroge Bush said: I do not expect anything from foreign countries because we did not ask for anything. This country will stand up and will sort things out'. It is not the right time to do politics but in this type of situation I find Bush's declaration quite appalling. http://fr.news.yahoo.com/050901/290/4kbew.html -

I did not listen to the whole press conference with Bush today but everything must be done to help these people and quickly. I must say that I am surprised that your president did not ask for international help. The damage seems so huge that surrounding countries like Canada and Southern American countries and even European states should be asked to intervene. Did he ask for international help or do the US intend to rescue all these people themselves? -
I own the Blue Mitchell Mosaic set and I'd like to buy a few of his Riverside recordings. What is your opinion on his Riverside period and where should I start? Thanks

Got the L.Smith, J.Smith, Tyner and Hutcherson today. These are the first American Blue Note RVGs I buy from CDuniverse. Great! But what are these silly sticky labels at the top of the jewel cases about????They are impossible to remove and leave awful marks on the case! EMI Europe can't spell the name of the musicians on their sleeves and use their Copy control system. In the States they use these stupid labels. Any chance of getting everything right at some point or is it too much to ask?! Sorry, I had to lash out but the music is superb. I love 'Think'

I'd love to have this one! So would I--but you know, most of it is now available on Blue Note CD's still in print. ← Yes,I know and I have got it all but still, I'd like to have this one in my collection. If anybody wants to get rid of this piece of s..., please get in touch!

I'd love to have this one!

Thank you Brownie. They made an announcement saying that the show was filmed by Arte (Randy Weston, Wayne Shorter as well as for the 2 latin bands that played the previous night). A few years ago, Arte used to show a summary every year. I used to watch it before I moved to the UK. The broadcast was presented live from Marciac and they used to show the artists playing on that night plus a summary of the best performances of the festival. (About 90 minutes long). This is how I discovered Michel Camilo with an unbelievable performance a few years ago. It is a shame if Arte have stopped showing this.
-
BTW Brownie, Arte often broadcast parts of the Marciac festival and sometimes live performances. Do you know if they showed anything this year? No TV in the 'gite' I rented for my holiday!
-
Jazz Crusaders, the Columbia small group swing and the Oliver Nelson! These should be on my shelves by Xmas!
-
This guy has so much energy and a real talent! A lot of strumming , you're right. Really amazing. He received a standing ovation and he fully deserved it.
-
I am quite surprised at the positive comments about the Shorter performance. I was in Marciac and I must admit that I was not convinced by Shorter's performance. No real sense of direction and too many notes leading nowhere. I was really looking forward to seeing him for the first time and I was slightly disappointed. A lot of people left well before the end which was surprising as the audience of Marciac has an excellent reputation and a few people booed when the band left the stage after 40 minutes. OTOH, Randy Weston who started the evening was brilliant. One of the best performance I have seen for a long time. I forgot the name of the bass player but he was amazing. I strongly recommend this festival. Marciac is a typical village in the south of France that lives for jazz for a fortnight every year. A lot of connoisseurs, acoustics is superb and the atmosphere in the village during the festival makes the place very special.
