  1. Last time I ordered two big boxes, I had to pay for custom taxes when I received them! With the shipping costs being so high for overseas customers, I feel they could make a bit of an effort for those who live in the 'old' Europe and elsewhere.
  2. I have been trying to buy this set on ebay for a while but it always ends up being bought for $300 - $400!! This is a lot for a 5 CD set. Is it that good? Was it deleted unexpectedly? What makes it so popular?
  3. PM sent about Illinois Jacquet and Teddy Wilson. Thanks
  4. Not much on the Basie set yet. I am still waiting for mine but I was expecting more feedback on this one.
  5. Thanks guys! My birthday present, the Count Basie Mosaic set will be on its way soon. Can't wait! Thanks again.
  6. What do you think of this set? I could not find any comments in any other thread. When did it go OOP?
  7. Thanks Mike. Very impressive website! Well done! I didn't know Hill had recorded that many sessions with other labels. A lot more stuff to discover then.
  8. Yep, please. I completely forgot about 'Lift every voice' that I saw in a shop a long time ago. The price put me off at the time. The other two sessions, I had never heard of!
  9. I have the Mosaic set (1963-66), the recently released Mosaic Select, 'Grass Roots', 'Passing' ships and 'Dance with Death' . Am I missing any other Blue Note material?
  10. I was contemplating the idea of going for a tube preamp for my new system. I am not quite sure what to do now. Thanks for sharing the info Porcy62. There must other board members who have a tube preamp too. What are your views and are you happy with it? Is distortion really an issue?
  11. I received this set today and I am listening to the first CD now. Waow! Absolutely superb. I hope the rest is going to be as enjoyable as the first CD. Great sound and lovely music. A real treat!
  12. My budget: £1 000. (about $1 900). What do you advise me to buy (CD player, amplifier, speakers)
  13. Yes $130 seems to be a good deal as it is described as new and sealed... As the item description and the rest of the instructions were in German, this might have put off a few potential buyers. Having studied German along with English at school will have proved to be useful at least once in my life.... Thanks to you all for your feedback. I'm really looking forward to listening to this material.
  14. No Trane. There are quite a few sets on my waiting list (Turrentine, J.Hodges, Hill select among others), but I will get the chance to buy them before they go OOP. A random purchase is always exciting! Anyway, you can't really go wrong with Mosaic. And if I was to be disappointed, I am sure I would be able to sell it. I would not have paid more than this. $130 for an OOP Mosaic is not that much anyway.
  15. Can I ask you an honest question...? Why did you bid on a set when you've never heard any Buck Clayton??? Why not buy a few single Cd's first, or at least go to the Mosaic site and listen to some online clips of sets currently in print???? I don't know what the final price was but I suspect you could get a few Selects or individual Clayton Cd's for that price... $130 for a 6 CD set is worth the risk isn't it? I have never been disappointed with any Mosaic sets. And let's face it, if I really don't like this set it's not the end of the world!
  16. I have just won this Mosaic set on ebay. It was a bit of a gamble as I have never heard anything with B.Clayton. Any views on this set? I hope this is not the worst Mosaic set you have ever listened to!
  17. Speaking of that: would someone please provide us an update re: these Mosaic sales? Not to re-open an old wound, but I'd like to know things ended up and there's no sense starting up some new thread. In my case, the issue was never resolved. I have never heard from pryan since, but I bought this set from another member of the board.
  18. Thanks guys. No point buying the Mosaic set then. I like exhaustive sets but I really hate having to listen to the same tune twice especially when it happens as often as on this set. Shame, but the music is delightful. No doubt Nichols deserved more recognition.
  19. Are there as many alternate takes on the Mosaic set as on the other 3 CD set released by Blue Note some time ago? I have the latter and I love the music but I am not keen on all these alternate takes. I would play these CDs more often if these takes were at the end of the CD. Is it the same on the Mosaic set (which I have the opportunity to buy). Could anybody post the discography of the Mosaic? Thanks!
