Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers - Selections From Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady etc. RCA Black and White (Fr)

Unplayed for years so it came as a surprise. Lovely session, The Messengers jump into these melodies with bags of energy, Griffin especially and Blakey drives it along brilliantly. Highly recommended

Mose Allison - Western Man (Atlantic). The new Mose album made me want to hear this 1971 album. "How Much Truth," "Night Club," and "Tell Me Something" are among my favorite Allison songs.

I haven't heard the music, but what a great Jim Flora cover this has:

Lee Morgan - Search for the New Land (BN New York stereo). Don't want to fetishize old Blue Note pressings too much, but this is a damned fine sounding hunk of vinyl.

Other Dimensions in Music (Roy Campbell/Daniel Carter/William Parker/Rashid Bakr) (Silkheart). Some outstanding free improvisation from 1989.

I had this as an HMV LP bought when I was a teenager holidaying in England to try and learn the local language.

Loved the music (and he album cover) so much that I HAD to get an original RCA Victor. Took me a long time...

Now spinning:

Booker Ervin 'The Song Book' (Prestige, Bergenfield, mono)

Great one - always thought that LP first came out as a green label in the 70s.

Big John Patton 'Accent On The Blues' (BN Rare Groove, stereo)

Lee Morgan 'Charisma' (BN Liberty, stereo). This one gets unfairly slagged off IMO - a good 60s Morgan session.

That's a very nice recording in my opinion as well. Found a promo copy back in the '70s.
