Leeway Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 The album rises somewhat above the hokey concept underlying the album. Lateef did pretty well filling the role of the "exotic" jazz player (shaved head, then-exotic name, the association with "Eastern" music, etc). Nevertheless, he did make some nice albums. Quote

kh1958 Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Charles Mingus--A Modern Jazz Symposium of Music and Poetry (Bethleham). 1957 Mingus is just incredible--the base group of Mingus, Richmond, Jimmy Knepper, and Shafi Hadi is one of my favorites. Charles Mingus--Wonderland (United Artists, disembodied Mingus head pressing). I noticed that there is a an ear or P in the inner groove, just like a Blue Note pressing. Quote
