"Gil Evans Orchestra" (John Carisi & Cecil Taylor) - Into the Hot (Impulse). CT's three tracks are the meat of this album, but John Carisi's pieces are pretty remarkable. Amiri Baraka/LeRoi Jones' sarcastic one-sentence dismissal of them still bothers me.

"..cool progressive, you dig?" I think Jones said. Oh, boy.

Willis Jackson - Bar Wars (Muse). Original Van Gelder pressing. Truth be told, it's a bit of a run-of-the-mill sax/organ date. Nothing earth shattering here.

May never have shattered my earth, but I like that one a lot.

Oh, it's good enough, but I just wasn't jumping to play it again. It will certainly make it into the rotation.

Now playing Don Patterson (with Sonny Stitt) - The Boss Men (Prestige). Liking this one more than the Willis Jackson that just ended. It just be that I like the organ playing a bit more... or it's Stitt.

Ah yes! I remember those 22/6 Realms! Still got 5 Charlie Parker Savoys on Realm from those days.

Frank Lowe: The Flam (Black Saint)

Played this after Delightfulee's post. More interesting and enjoyable than I had remembered.

Sold mine to Mole Jazz for £2 decades ago. Been kicking myself ever since !

So did I! :D

Not for long; we lived with my grandmother for a few months in '59. There was a cinema there where I saw 'No sun in Venice', better known as 'One never knows', with a soundtrack by John Lewis.

I think it was my first exposure to modern jazz.

Frank Wess - Yo Ho! Poor You, Little Me, a Frankenstein's monster of an issue - a yellow-and-black label Prestige mono record in a cover that has a Status back and a Prestige front with a Status sticker stuck over the Prestige logo. The spine still reads Prestige. In any case, it's a really excellent album.

The new mono pressing of the first Hendrix US lp from Sony Legacy. A beautiful pressing, 200g, flat as a board. Not a great sounding disc, especially side 1, but it never was. Sure is fun to hear though, I'll be playing this a lot. Different mixes than the stereo.
