Well, no Plas Johnson on this one, but it all swings at a nice medium pace.

mid fifties date by this gifted arranger. Some nice solos hidden amongst a fairly third stream like music. Dave Schildkraut has some excellent spots with his very fluid sound. Certainly a very interesting date and unlike much else of that time.

Alton Purnell - Funky Piano New Orleans Style (Warner Bros. mono). I've never been able to figure out what this 1958 album was supposed to be - jazz, pop, R & B? But at some point I stopped caring - it's just a blast. Plas Johnson, Red Callender, and fellow New Orleanian Earl Palmer help Alton do whatever it is he's doing.

Never came across that Alton Purnell album. Though, if I had, unless Plas J's name is on the sleeve, I'd have passed it by until I heard him with George Lewis...
