I have a Japanese Toshiba LP pressing of The Golden Eight. Excellent album. Need to dig it out again. (been a while since I was on a CBBB kick, though when it's a kick, it's heavy...)

Same here, not played in years. I'll have to dig it out.

George Russell Sextet in K.C. (Decca). Actually they are in New York. Nice session with Dave Baker, Don Ellis and Dave Young.

I really like Baker's playing on "Jazz in the Space Age" but have not heard anything else. Recommendations?

George Russell Sextet 'Ezz-thetics' (Riverside) would be my immediate recommendation for great playing by Baker, particularly on the title track.

Kenny Wheeler "windmill tilter" (Fontana, UK). This is not my favorite Wheeler record, but it's his first as a leader and sets the tone for great things to come from him.

It's maybe not the "best" one but it's really, really good and I play it fairly often. Underrated IMO.

Kenny Wheeler Quintet - Flutter by, Butterfly [soul Note] w. Stan Sulzman, John Taylor, Dave Holland, Billy Elgart

Lead off track 'Everybody's Song But My Own' quintessential Wheeler in many ways

An excellent album

Kenny Wheeler - "Music for Large and Small Ensembles" [ECM]

Another classic...loved this band with Holland, Abercrombie, etc.

True..didn't mean to come across as saying it wasn't good...it is a great album and often I forget that John McLaughlin is on it which is pretty cool!

My favourite record featuring Baker is George Russell Sextet at "The Five Spot," which, in a continuing theme from Russell's time at Decca, wasn't recorded where the title said it was. Great album, but the other Russells featuring Baker are all very good.

Looky what the mailwoman brought today:

Steve Lacy - Outings (ISMEZ)

That's a great one. One of my top 5 favourite Lacy records.

I really enjoyed my first hearing, especially side two - "Island."
