jeffcrom Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 Dickey Myers - Dickey's Mood (Quadrangle). A 1979 album by an obscure, but talented tenor saxophonist, produced by one Allen Lowe, who wrote four of the tunes. The great Joe Albany is on piano. Quote
AllenLowe Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) oi, weird memories; brilliant but hopelessly self destructive saxophonist; great guy, but hooked up with a truly evil woman who burned a lot of bridges (both are now dead). I also have a very interesting tape of him playing duos with Joe Albany; but that LP got him an offer from George Wein, yes, George Wein, and Dickey was too afraid to respond, Edited May 18, 2015 by AllenLowe Quote

paul secor Posted May 18, 2015 Report Posted May 18, 2015 Archibald: The Complete New Orleans Sessions 1950-1952 (Krazy Kat) There have been a lot of versions of Stagger Lee over the years, but I believe that Archibald's "Stack-A-Lee" was the first big hit, and Lloyd Price copped Archibald's lyrics for his even bigger hit. Though Lloyd Price did add that beautiful haiku-like: The night was clear and the moon was yellow and the leaves came tumbling down Quote

corto maltese Posted May 20, 2015 Report Posted May 20, 2015 Arza Anaiak - Txalaparta '75 Iraila - (Cramps, IT) That's a funny little disc, but I like it. They also appear on one of the Area records ( "Maledetti" IIRC). There's a much older 7" EP on a Spanish label, but that one's not in my collection. Quote

Could never get into Area although I'm morbidly curious about the Demetrio Stratos solo LP. Never heard/saw the 7" but yeah, the LP is cool. That nova musicha series has some nice records - Schiaffini, Lacy, Bailey, Grillo, Schiano... Quote

Never heard/saw the 7" but yeah, the LP is cool. That nova musicha series has some nice records - Schiaffini, Lacy, Bailey, Grillo, Schiano... I think I understand about Area. I never cared much for the progressive jazz-rock Area, but I do like the free improv freakout Area. A lot. Try "Event '76", a live album with Steve Lacy and Paul Lytton. As for the Demetrio Stratos solo albums, well it's simple, you need to hear them. They're unique, in the real sense of being incomparable to almost anything else. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted May 20, 2015 Report Posted May 20, 2015 I love Area and have all their albums with Stratos. One of the few Italian prog bands I really enjoy. I've heard one of the Stratos solo Lps on cramps around 20 years ago and recall it being utterly unique but not something I would listen to more then once. I like the Paolo Tofani solo record on cramps as well. Quote
