paul secor Posted June 3, 2016 Report Posted June 3, 2016 Al Francis - John Neves - Joe Hunt: Jazz Bohemia Revisited (Lost Cosmic Unity) Couldn't find an image for this one. It slipped under the radar when it was released (1986), and if you come across a copy, grab it - unique and wonderful. Quote

I reviewed it for the Chicago Tribune when it came out because I knew who Francis was from his stellar work on Don Ellis' "New Ideas." Loved this record and got in touch with Francis by phone afterwards. Wish I knew what became of him. There used to be some "live" things with him on YouTube. I've never owned a copy. Quote

Clunky Posted June 5, 2016 Report Posted June 5, 2016 Two 1993 Toshibas from their Blue Note 4000 series. Both sounding excellent and super quiet. I've always found the Toshibas to sound decent. Freddie Roach------Down to Earth Grant Green---------Am I blue Quote

Great band. yeah, bought a couple of the Polyvinyl reissues a while back as I wanted to hear them again -- it'd been well over a decade! The albums are good, mellow indie folk with a quiet power. Worth giving another shot 20 years on. Now: Mudhoney - Piece of Cake - (Reprise, German pressing) Quote

Mudhoney were awesome back in the day..still prefer the early stuff and saw them many times around 1990-91..killer live band. Last time I saw them was just after Lukin left the band and it was at a small tavern in Bellingham. Got there to find it sold out..spotted Mark Arm walking on the street and ran up to him to say how my friends and I had driven almost an hour from Vancouver to see them and it was sold out. He said no worries and put us on the guest list! He also appreciated my vintage 1989 mudhoney shirt too which maybe helped! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 6, 2016 Report Posted June 6, 2016 ha, nah - just don't feel like listening to jazz at the moment! Was sadly unable to see them during their prime due to being underage (even though I was a huge fan at the time). Saw them later and felt like it was too slick and phoned-in, but the records from their first several years still hold up. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted June 6, 2016 Report Posted June 6, 2016 I was like 16-18 at the time but I guess I looked older as I rarely got carded at clubs! And there were all ages shows too. Green River is worth checking out too; especially the Homestead ep and the "dry as a bone" ep. Quote
