Recorded in Sweden in '76 - Hutto on guitar and voice with a Swedish rhythm section. Nice, extra-tinny guitar but there isn't as much "push" as with the Hawks or New Hawks. Amigo pressings are pretty crappy and this one's no exception! https://www.discogs.com/JB-Hutto-Blues-For-Fonessa/release/3026045 Quote
Dan Gould Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 Thanks for the warning! I checked on Discogs right after posting, that $10 copy looks tempting. Quote

Clunky Posted July 19, 2016 Report Posted July 19, 2016 Della Reese -----Amen ! -------(London UK) I'm not familiar with Reese's ( or any gospel for that matter) but her singing her is very fine. Perhaps inevitably I prefer the up tempo numbers but the overall mood is a lot less pious than the cover photo might suggest. Quote

mikeweil Posted July 21, 2016 Report Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) Tiny Grimes, Callin' The Blues - Swingville/OJC LP reissue Hope this helps me overcome an almost sleepless night - too hot and damp - it's music of good spirit with inspired playing by all participants. Packing day, we'll be off tomorrow for three weeks in the North East of Germany. Edited July 21, 2016 by mikeweil duplication of posts - the 2nd time this happens today Quote
mikeweil Posted July 21, 2016 Report Posted July 21, 2016 Chico Hamilton Trio - Japanese LP reissue Liberty LLR-88039 Jim Hall or Howard Roberts guitar, George Duvivier bass, Chico Hamilton drums. They even vocalize on one track ... I always why Michael Cuscuna never did a proper reissue of this, especially since the 12 inch LP omitted some tracks from the original 10 inch issues. For the complete sessions one has to go the Andorran way. George Duvivier is great here, as always. Quote
