HutchFan Posted November 3, 2019 Report Posted November 3, 2019 Giving this another spin: This LP is more slick & commercial than the other Irakere records I've heard. But I really dig it! It's infectious, irresistible music -- even if the "jazz quotient" is lower. Quote

HutchFan Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 (edited) Frank Capp / Nat Pierce - Juggernaut (Concord, 1977) It's a bit disconcerting (pun intended) how much these guys sound like the Basie band. They may as well have been a "tribute band" -- but Basie & his band were still doing their thing in 1977. Tribute acts usually come after the original no longer exists. Not here though. HutchFan Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 Hank Crawford - Roadhouse Symphony (MIlestone, 1985) The LP cover art practically screams "It's the 1980s!" -- but the music is timeless. Quote
HutchFan Posted November 5, 2019 Report Posted November 5, 2019 Jean-Luc Ponty Experience - Open Strings (MPS/PAUSA, rec. 1971) with a powerhouse Euro/American band: Philip Catherine (g); Joachim Kühn (p); Peter Warren (b); and Oliver Johnson (d). Quote
