HutchFan Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 (edited) NP: Harold Mabern - Rakin' and Scrapin' (Prestige) OJC vinyl reissue This is home cookin', right here. Hard bop with a southern accent. LOVE it. Edited October 27, 2020 by HutchFan Quote

Typica of the live recordings of the era is my best description. I had not heard the previous cd release so I can’t compare it to that, but I would say a bit flat sounding dynamically and like they took a mono recording and made it stereo (I’m guessing they did but haven’t researched it) but it is immaculately pressed. Dan Gould Posted October 27, 2020 Report Posted October 27, 2020 Excellent Cliff Jordan here. Great late 60s session when I don't think Jay was working as much (?). Anyway certainly his timeless style wasn't exacty 'current'. Quote

Many thanks for that. I’ll probably stick with Spotify, as it’s available there. Sounds like a good gig - hadn’t heard it before. Quote

Dan Gould Posted October 29, 2020 Report Posted October 29, 2020 Lining up three Houston Persons. That Chocomotive is a great potential BFT source with Alan Dawson playing vibes instead of drums. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 29, 2020 Report Posted October 29, 2020 Chocomotive is a good one. Quote
