clifford_thornton Posted April 4, 2024 Report Posted April 4, 2024 At least with Karyobin there are three CDs: the Chronoscope from the 90s, a Japanese mini-sleeve (possibly unauthorized), and Martin Davidson's beautiful Emanem version. I have an original and somewhat crackly (despite looking clean) Hexagram LP but the Emanem naturally blows it out of the water. Quote

I think the only solo Monk albums I have is something from Londra 1971 and one from San Francisco in the 50´s. The Londra album is great, the San Francisco has a bit a hesitate playing, I like the solo more with that Monkish stride. I might have seen the cover of your album in some books, but you know all those CBS recordings went so quickly OOP. Quote

I've never even seen one in person. Quote

Curious what the story is behind the Obe label It was the engineer's label and I believe only existed for that one release. He licensed/sold some of his tapes to the Springboard/Trip/UpFront imprint, which is how the record has been bootlegged all over the place. Quote

So unfair to Tootie lots of those tried to sell it under Hancocks name for more money. Makes me think of Pete La Rocas Woman at a Turkish Bath sold under Chick Coreas name. Quote

Pim Posted April 7, 2024 Report Posted April 7, 2024 Probably my favorite Clark. Lovely Japanese issue but I forgot it has an issue on side A. Anyone around here knows what this is? If you take a close look you see small white spots on the vinyl. Unfortunately they are hearable as small glitches in the sound. They do ruin the listening a experience a little… Quote

I've had success removing such detritus a few times but it's not normally as much as I think I see in your photo. I'm now playing 'The Angels of Atlanta' because you mentioned it elsewhere. What a great album Quote

But I am afraid it’s in the grooves… Thats a lovely album by Hannibal. The choir really ads something like it did with Max Roach records as well. Now playing: Edited April 7, 2024 by Pim Quote

Looking again and I think that's pressing faults on the Clark. I'm really enjoying your old copy of Archie Shepp at the moment! Quote

It is almost always audible and usually results in a ripping sound as the needle traverses those damaged areas. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted April 7, 2024 Report Posted April 7, 2024 The Cars - Heartbeat City (Elektra). I haven't spun these old Cars LPs in years. Fun 80's pop. Lousy band to see live back in the day. Doesn't mean I didn't go several times though. I actually have this gatefold cover. I never realized that there was more than one cover for this LP. Ah... the top one is the CD gatefold and the bottom one is the LP. Quote
