kh1958 Posted May 27, 2024 Report Posted May 27, 2024 (edited) Junior Wells & Buddy Guy, Live at the Newport Folk Festival 1968 (Cleopatra Blues) If you are a fan of the Delmark classic Hoodoo Man Blues, this is insanely good (well recorded and licensed from the Junior Wells estate), with Fred Below, Jack Myers and A.C. Rabshakeh Posted May 28, 2024 Report Posted May 28, 2024 Han Bennink / Willem Breuker – New Acoustic Swing Duo First time at home alone for a while, so treating myself to a nice spin of some records I haven't listened to enough whilst filing photographs. Quote

Glad to hear that. And I like your musical tastes, it is more demanding music. I like straight ahead as well and have to play some of it to make money, but I had heard the kind of "jazz" that I can´t play, before I started to perform ( I mean pianoless "new thing" stuff, let´s say 2 horns, bass and drums, or just a trio of horn, bass and drums) so I was not so much receptive for the typical 50´s mainstream many folks like to hear,,,,, Edited May 29, 2024 by Gheorghe Quote

Truth be told that I am feeling a little guilty that I haven't been spinning the free-er stuff recently. I used to play it whilst looking after the kids in the mornings when they were small but nowadays they have stronger opinions about what they want to listen to. Quote

I see, but as much as I like so much stuff, I just can´t listen to it in the morning. I´m a night type of guy and when I get up I need a breath of fresh air, some motion , then a coffee, a slice of butter-cake , a cigarette and absolute silence. I get more active in the evening...... And at home I listen to music with headphones, since I need it loud and my wife would here it even if she goes into one of the rooms downstairs. Now I can spin it the way I need to hear it full and don´t disturb her with "my stuff". 😄 Quote

Very very easy with discogs, but commonly found in the wild too. I own a fair few without ever really having sought them out. Are they rare in the states? Quote
JSngry Posted May 30, 2024 Report Posted May 30, 2024 I don't seem to be able to find them with any ease. Too bad. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 30, 2024 Report Posted May 30, 2024 Huh. I run into them in shops from time to time, but certainly more (Moer) on the east coast than when I lived in TX or the midwest. Quote
JSngry Posted May 30, 2024 Report Posted May 30, 2024 Yeah, not great penetration into this market. It was a surprisingly large catalog too. Quote
