Just a minor point, but unless I am very much mistaken this particular record would actually qualify as an ORIGINAL indeed. I.e. this is the "U.K. original" release of that particular record (the US original of which was on Verve MGV 8244).

Re Newport '57 on Columbia UK

yes could be. Liner says Recording first published 1957.

I am not certain whether my copy was manufactured in 1957? So I labelelled it as a reissue

Here is my japanese  reissue version  but counterpart with  different content):

Not overly convincing on first acquaintance. There's something good about his playing here, and elsewhere, but I'm not sure settings are good enough.

Yes, that Columbia Clef would be the first UK issue from the 1950s.

The Verve CD rightly reunited the Joe Williams side into the Basie set.

The Mary Lou material was rightly reunited with the Dizzy set
