clifford_thornton Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Stan Kenton/Johnny Richards - Adventures in Time - Capitol rainbow mono. This must be one of Stan's best albums ever. The cover of my copy has a huge orange sticker with an endorsement from Playboy! So does my copy of the AMM/MEV LP on Mainstream. Oh wait - my bad - that's a Roulette distribution sticker. Quote

sidewinder Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Sonny Stitt 'with J.J. Johnson and Bud Powell' (Prestige, mono, 50th St. adress) Dammit Brownie, don't you have any OJCs, Blue Note DMMs, Applause vinyls or cheapo Cadet reissues of Argos like the rest of us? (and wishing you all the best of the day). Quote

(and wishing you all the best of the day). Mais oui! I have plenty (more than enough) of these DMMs. As for the OJCs, I too do have plenty of those (no complaint in this case). I got those vinyls to complete the ones I could not afford when I had access to the original releases! Quote

six string Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Last night I played some new arrivals. Gabor Szabo - The Sorcerer (orig Impulse) - Bacchanal (orig. Skye) - 1969 (orig. Skye) Years ago, I probably would have stuck my nose up at these albums, but I'm digging them today. Quote

Recently spun "Spellbinder" and "Jazz Raga." 1969 is a little on the hit and miss side, but I love the other 2. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 Mingus Dynasty - Scorpio reissue of the Columbia mono. Sounds great in mono. If there's one thing that drives me up a wall about stereo LPs, it's when the bass isn't in the middle. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 (edited) Michael Nesmith & the First National Band - Magnetic South - RCA yellow/orange label, but pre-Dynaflex. "The Crippled Lion" is dedicated to my cat, who sliced open his paw when he knocked over a ceramic plate. He now has a cast an is wearing an Elizabethan collar. Mike Nesmith is one of the REAL originators of country rock. He was doing it - and selling millions - before some of the others even had a record deal. Spontooneous Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Sonny Red's LP on Mainstream. Sonny mainly sticks to tenor, on which he makes like Joe Henderson. Only one alto track, and it sounds out of place. Good to hear Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins together again. All in all, intriguing. Quote
