sidewinder Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) Remember listening to Gallivan quite regularly on Charles Fox's BBC radio 3 programme back then - he was resident in the UK I think. Now spinning Charlie Rouse 'Bossa Nova Bacchanal' (BN NY USA, mono) Edited June 9, 2013 by sidewinder Quote
JohnS Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Pretty sure. Came out later on a Fresh Sound CD. Several vocals by Al Jarreau, then studying at U of Iowa. That's right, I think it was Jarreau that put the brake on this issue. I'm guessing that Monterose may have provided the tape to Spotlite. Quote
JohnS Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 UK Philips issue This record, Smash issue, promo mono. Much more enjoyable than I remembered. Quote

kh1958 Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 I just found my copy of the Billy Mitchell, so this was my first listen; I rather enjoyed it (in addition to Thad Jones, it features Kenny Burrell and Richard Wyands). This morning, Raymond Scott and His Orchestra Plays (MGM ten inch), and Gems of Jazz Volume 4 (Coleman Hawkins, Red Allen, Benny Carter) (Decca ten inch). Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Louis Smith - Prancin' (SteepleChase). I found this sealed in a used bin and when I saw Smith, Junior Cook, Roland Hanna, Sam Jones & Billy Hart filling out the band, I figured this couldn't be too bad. I was right. Quote
Clunky Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 (edited) Buddy Terry ---"Awareness"----(Mainstream ) 70s very fine date, the band sound rehearsed and storm through a modal sounding set with fusion touches and some congas for good measure.Nicest Mainstream date I've heard. Terry did another date for Shad but I've not heard it. Edited June 11, 2013 by Clunky Quote
