Bertrand,This is a nice pairing of "Doin' The Thang" and "Pleasue Bent". Worth having because Roland Alexander, Marcus Belgrave and Ronnie Mattews dont exactly have extensive discographies. The cd has twelve tracks and there is no mention in the notes of anything being excluded as far as I can see.

Thanks. I actually was especially interested in Charles Davis' contribution. I saw him a few weeks ago and realized that I only have a couple of things he's on: 2 Kenny Dorham records, the Walton/Mobley Cobblestone date from 1972, Hubbard's The Body And The Soul (3 tracks) and Art Blakey's ultra-rare Golden Boy.

I guess I was mostly wondering if the CD was fairly routine hard-bop, or more exciting than that. My guess is that Freddie alone makes it worth it. I always like Ronnie's playing - don't know much about Roland Alexander, though.

Bertrand.

They're both good sessions, perhaps a bit less formulaic than a lot of BN hard bop etc. Davis acquits himself well, as always. I don't have the new twofer, but I don't think they edit anything out with the merger.

I wish that Davis had recorded more as a leader and sideman; what he has done is excellent.

I think Marcus Belgrave is more interesting in this release than Freddie Hubbard! Not a standout CD, but nice. Charles Davis is very good on this one, as is Roland Alexander. Mathews is better on the older session, IMO.

Both LPs are complete on this CD.
