BruceH Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 Mosaic Commodore volume 1. The Teddy Wilson record is a real gem. I like this collection more and more. What a pity Mosaic didn't issue this fabulous collection on CD... Yeah, and the least they could have done is keep one of each of the LP sets for me, for the time I found out about Mosaic... or even better, a couple of more years, until I'd have had the knowledge and some money. The least they could have done is saved me a copy of each volume of the Commodore super-set, and sent 'em to me for Christmas. Quote

Kalo Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Just received Gerald Wilson and Jazztet Boxes today and have begun listening to them alternately, starting with first disc of Wilson, then Jazztet, etc. Loving both of them so far... Quote
ASNL77 Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 The Shorty Rogers set. Not one of the most debated set on our board but one that I really enjoy everytime I give it a spin. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 17, 2007 Report Posted October 17, 2007 The Amos Milburn set, LP1. Agreat one! (& no one here - including me - ever mentions it.) I wished I'd been in time to get that on CD - but I didn't want it on LP. But I've got quite a bit of Amos' Aladdin sides on various LPs and CDs. MG Quote

John Tapscott Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 all week - Art Farmer/Benny Golson/Jazztet, which arrived on Friday (great stuff, indeed!) next week - the Oliver Nelson box which should arrive this Friday Just finished the Jazztet Disc 4. This is a wonderful stuff, very consistent and interesting. Two things have really stood out for me in my listening so far - first, what a wonderful, top-drawer tenor soloist player Golson was in those days (I knew it but needed to be reminded), and secondly, what a fine trombonist Grachan Moncur 111 was in a straight-ahead, changes-oriented setting.
