paul secor Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Art Pepper Select - the Modern Art session Just my first listen to this date, but it sounds like Pepper was truly on a roll when he recorded it. Quote

papsrus Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Disc 2 of the Complete H.R.S. Sessions, which just arrived here a few days ago. So impressed with this one. Rex Stewart's "Cherry" (1940) is knocks-the-socks-off great -- slightly sad, slightly happy, easy swingin' ... beautiful. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 (edited) Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Solid State LP set, LPs 1 and 2 Not only great music but one of my fave Mosaic booklets. Edited March 16, 2008 by sidewinder Quote

six string Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Last night and this morning I listened to disc 4 and 5 of the Stanley Turrentine box. I love his arrangement of Randy Weston's In Memory Of on disc four. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Yes, good arrangement and performance. Me, Buddy Rich, last two discs. Quote

king ubu Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 My Hodges & Prima/Manone package was finally delivered two hours ago... big relief! Now halfway through disc two of the Prima/Manone - great one so far, glad I got it! Quote
HolyStitt Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 (edited) The Complete OKeh /Brunswick Bix, Trumbauer & Teagarden I thought I would focus on the Tram sides in preparation to finally listening to the Lester Young set. I sure am into delaying gratification! Edited April 4, 2008 by HolyStitt Quote

Now halfway through disc two of the Prima/Manone - great one so far, glad I got it! Flurin what ya playing at. I'd successfully managed to ignore the lure of the Prima/Manone set until your comments. My credit card provider thanks you. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 I'm hanging on until it exits 'running low' Quote
ghost of miles Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 The Pres/Basie Mosaic, disc four. Just about to get to disc 4 myself...my set came two days ago. Quote
Clunky Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 I'm hanging on until it exits 'running low' I noticed that it appeared in both Last Chance and Running Low, not sure if that's the usual form. These pre-war Mosaic wear very well I've noticed and are so well executed. Quote

Yes, and in this case I noticed the first three CDs all being 70-75 minutes long, so they were kind to make this a 6 and not 7CD set, too (the rule seems to be that discs clock in around 60 minutes, no?) Quote
jazzbo Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 I think the rules vary from label to label (and in the case of the Cole for exampe, artist estate to artist estate). Quote
HolyStitt Posted April 4, 2008 Report Posted April 4, 2008 For some reason I went to the Prima/Manone after the Bix, Tram & Tea set. I have had it for a few weeks but this seemed like the best time to listen. Just finished the first disc, I am now starting the second one, and so far I am really enjoying the Prima sides. The Lester set will have to continue waiting. Quote
