His drummer, Savannah Harris, was very impressive. It was an excellent band. He mentioned a funny story about when he played there with Stan Getz when the place opened 30+ years ago. I've been going there for a long time, but not that long. I had tickets to the show last night but had to back out at the last minute. I heard from the person who used my tickets that it was very good, especially Harris. I attended quite a few shows at the Regattabar when Barron played with Getz but it sold out quickly and there was no such thing as a secondary market back then. Quote

First show of the group in over a year. Playing again next Tuesday. Ches Smith is a force of nature. Best playing I’ve heard from David Torn. Peaking at 72, apparently:) Same band, same time, same place. 15 minutes until take off:) Quote

The intensity & power of this trio is boundless. Ches’ electronics were deeper & heavier than last week & David played the disruptor as well as being even grittier than last week. Wowza. Steve Reynolds Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago Last night at Roulette John Zorn’s Cobra the 4th time I’ve seen it over the past 2-3 years. As good as ever. Best performers Ches Smith (as always) although he was stage right while I was front row 2 seats from Zorn’s prompting position center stage. Simon Hanes, John Medeski, Kenny Wolleson, Billy Martin, Wendy Eisenberg were very effective. Cool to have Medeski’s Hammond B3 (with the big Leslie rotating amp) right next to Martin. The bassists were both great as well, Jorge Roeder & Henry Fraser as well as the cellist, Jay Campbell. SO much fun. The musicians & crowd love it. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago Tonight at Hallwalls - Ricky Ford - tenor saxophone John Kordalewski - piano Jerome Harris - acoustic bass guitar Thurman Barker - drums Thurman has been a friend since 1966. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago I wish Ford would play in the Boston area again. I haven't seen him play in decades. He was scheduled last year - in February - and guess what? It snowed like hell and he couldn't make the gig. On top of that, the venue he was scheduled at was a tiny place that seats maybe 60 people and not one of the bigger venues in the area. Quote
