Clunky Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Last night Tim Berne- Paraphrase- Drew Gress and Tom Rainy, two heavy freely improvised sets. Powerful stuff Quote
J Larsen Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 Anthony Braxton was so good last night that I'm going again tonight. Quote
sal Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Anthony Braxton was so good last night that I'm going again tonight. Wow....what an opportunity! You are lucky. Enjoy! Quote
J Larsen Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 He was even better tonight. Best show I've seen since AHA3 at the Iridium a few months ago. Quote
BFrank Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Not jazz, but I saw the Australia's Hoodoo Gurus tonight. Rockin'..........but too loud. Quote

sheldonm Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 ...saw a couple of Tony Monaco's shows in Indy...very good as well! Here are a couple photos. Quote
J Larsen Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas Had tix to Pere Ubu Tuesday night, but I was too sick to go... Quote
J Larsen Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 The Orchestra of the Americas is not recommended. Tonight: ICP Orchestra @ Tonic. Tomorrow night: Paul Motian @ VV. Quote
jlhoots Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Bobby Shew has moved back to the Albuquerque area. Going to hear him in Santa Fe tonight with a "local" trio that includes Dave Parlato (bass on Warne Marsh's Ne Plus Ultra). Quote
J Larsen Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Paul Motian Octet. I hope they are good; I'm unfamiliar with most of the musicians. Quote
7/4 Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Paul Motian Octet. I hope they are good; I'm unfamiliar with most of the musicians. should be. I heard my first show at the Stone Thursday night, Steve Sandberg. I've known him for years, we took a singing class together years ago. He really can sing a number "world" music styles convincingly. First gig with his new band too, real solid. The Stone is a nice little venue, I'll be back... Quote

I've seen him at The Stone a few times and he was consistently great. Quote

I've seen him at The Stone a few times and he was consistently great. You ain't kiddin, I've heard him many times, but it's been a while. I'll worry about it when I get to May. I'd like to hear John Abercrombie at Birdland next week at least once or twice and/or Frisell's trio at the Vanguard. Quote
Joe G Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Going to see the Metheny/Mehldau quartet tonight. Quote
7/4 Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Going to see the Metheny/Mehldau quartet tonight. I can't make one of their gigs, but I hope they record a gig for DVD release. Quote

I'd like to hear John Abercrombie at Birdland next week at least once or twice and/or Frisell's trio at the Vanguard. I'm trying to work out how to get to one of those Frisell gigs next week. It's tough with Brotzmann, the last Tonic show, Jandek and Roky Erikson all happening at the same time. I may try to make it on Thursday. I like his small group work, but I'm not at all a fan of the larger groups with strings, such as the one playing the following week. Quote
J Larsen Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 I want to hear the trio! Me too. Frisell's guitar tone is unreal. I may have to bite the sleep deprivation bullet and get tix for Thursday night - that makes six shows in one week for me. Quote
J Larsen Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Paul Motian Octet. I hope they are good; I'm unfamiliar with most of the musicians. should be. The music was hit and miss, but Ben Monder was un-effing-believable on guitar. Consider my mind blown. Quote
Joe G Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Monder's pretty much in a class of his own. Quote
J Larsen Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Monder's pretty much in a class of his own. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for him in the future. Not necessarily the kind of thing I'd want to listen to on a regular basis, but it is really impressive to watch. Tonight: Sylvie Courvoisier and Mark Feldman @ Tonic. This is not a show I'd normally go to (especially on a Tuesday night), but with Tonic closing it's doors this week it's a no-brainer. Quote
J Larsen Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 I want to hear the trio! I'm going Thursday night - got my tix yesterday. Quote
