Noj Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 I tend to avoid those Retrospective things. With Blue Note reissues so abundant, I'd rather have the whole albums. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Well, guys, I just quit BMG. I've been a member since 1997 and my deals have been good but this yourmusic.com is just too good to pass up. I found a link on the Steve Hoffman to join up with $4.99 CDs with no shipping & handling and that clinched the deal. I signed up, copied the 21 CDs I had in my BMG shopping cart into my yourmusic.com "queue" and followed the links on BMG to cancel my membership (not easy to find there). I am now contemplating the Miles Davis "Complete Seven Steps" box for $34.93... or should I get the Dylan box for $79.84? The link to join for $4.99 is: http://a.chtah.com/a/hBBnRfiAT9DbEAT9NMMAEY28iSa/ym1. FYI, currents members using the $5.99 option supposedly can cancel and re-join using this link. Save a buck per CD. Later, Kevin Quote

Uncle Skid Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Posted a few days ago about enrolling in www.yourmusic.com. Well, first bit of bad news is that my order for Ellington's "Piano in the Foreground" and Von Freeman's "The Great Divide" were backordered and CANCELED!  No notice of that either, just checking my account I saw the cancellations. Also, an inquiry I made to them about some other items has gone unanswered. Looks like this might be a short relationship Any new developments? It looks like both of those CDs are now available. I've been thinking about joining (and "Piano in the Foreground" would probably be one of my first purchases), so I was curious if things have gotten any better. Quote
Tjazz Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 (edited) Yeah, at $5, I'll buy just about any CD. Edited January 6, 2005 by Tjazz Quote

Sundog Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 (edited) I joined. Got the Seven Steps Box and Translinear Light coming for $42 and change. The price per CD was $4.99 and I was charged tax. A good deal if it all shows up! Edited January 7, 2005 by Sundog Quote
GA Russell Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Thanks Kevin. I too have signed up at Your Music for $4.99. First up will be a new semi-reissue of the Chet Baker Grey December CD. As I recall, Grey December was made up of tracks from two sessions. I believe that this CD is entirely of the first of those sessions. Next up will be EST. I've never heard them, but they get consistently good reviews from the Europeans over on AAJ, so I thought I would give them a try for five bucks. Quote
WD45 Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 {...} so I thought I would give them a try for five bucks. This will be a more common phrase at $4.99 per disc. Wow! Quote
GloriousBlues Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Damnit!! Why do you guys have to point out yourmusic.com??? I've been trying to *reduce* the number of CDs I buy, and honestly I've shown a lot of restraint in the last 6 months or so. But at $4.99 per disc, how am I supposed to hold back? I don't have the willpower to say no to twenty buck box sets. So I signed up, and am leaning toward Monk's Dream as the first in my queueue, or maybe something by Angelique Kidjo. I will probably order the Jack Johnson box before the end of the weekend. Quote

Absolutely. The box set prices are just ridiculous... I mean, less than $40 for the Miles' 'Seven Steps to Heaven' and Sonny Rollins' 'Complete Prestige' set? Wow. Don't forget about the non-jazz stuff, either. The Complete Hank Williams (10 CDs) for under $50. The Complete Doors Studio Recordings (7 CDs) for under $35. The Complete Original Black Sabbath (8 CDs/1 DVD) for under $40. Velvet Underground - 'Peel Slowly and See' (5 CDs) for under $25. Wooooow... I honestly don't know what to buy first. Quote

I signed up and put 21 titles into my queue. They're already shipping my first (it says "within 48 hours") so they'll do the same with you. If you don't have anything in your queue, they zap your card $4.99 and send you nada. BTW, someone over on the Steve Hoffman who was signed up using the $5.99 option E-mailed customer service with the link I posted in this thread and asked why he couldn't get $4.99 as well. They "converted" his account over to $4.99. Later, Kevin Quote
sidewinder Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Before non-U.S. Org members get too excited: yourmusic.com, like BMG, is for U.S. residents only Damn ! I've always hoped that one day some enlightened operation would start one of these things here in Europe and bankrupt the lot of us Quote
GloriousBlues Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Get stuff into your queue at sign-up! I think this is one of the ways they may be trying to "stick" you. Good point. They don't waste any time ringing up that first queued disc. They're pulling from my queue today, even though I just enrolled yesterday. Thanks. Quote

Man with the Golden Arm Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 if i put up that url into safari it's $5.99 w/ cache and cookies vamoosed. click into netscape and strip it and it's $4.99. Quote
riverrat Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I use Mozilla and get the $5.99 rate too. Would appreciate a tip for a work around to get the $4.99 rate. I am unclear on what "stripping it" means, and I do not have Netscape installed. Quote
Ed S Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Well, I joined up New Year's Eve on the $5.99 plan. In my opinion, a good deal, but hey a buck's a buck and they all add up. At any rate, first shipment arrived today 7 Steps to Heaven Live at the Blackhawk (4CD set) Complete Jack Johnson A Capitol comp entitled Torch Songs (2 CDs) all for around $115 tax incl. Also got Greg Osby's Public as my first queue pick - great record. Bon Byron's Ivey Divey up next. Couldn't be happier. Well, maybe I could if they were $4.99 Quote
Big Al Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 Would you believe BMG now has Dylan's Self Portrait CD? Why? Was this even part of the SACD reissue series? And even if it was, isn't this supposed to be Dylan's worst album ever? Meanwhile, nothing of real interest in the jazz dept. beyond the Conns. Quote
