Jim Dye
Someone is coming up with a lot of interesting stuff at easytree lately. Roscoe Mitchell aborted album session 1964 prob. Chicago, IL Roscoe Mitchell - reeds Alvin Fielder - drums Malachi Favors - bass Fred Berry (poss. Billy Brimfield)- trumpet The personnel on the aborted Mitchell session is RM, Favors, Alvin Fielder and a trumpeter that is the subject of some controversy. The tape didn't have a name, somewhere on some internet disco, they list Billy Brimfield. According to my friend and favorite underappreciated musician, Charlie Kohlhase, in a recent interview, Alvin Fielder gave another name Fred Berry. I'm not sure whether having this stuff circulate is cool or not. My feelings fall somewhere between B-) and .
Chuck Nessa
This is really disturbing. This is not an aborted session. I have all the material and hoped to issue it some day. Roscoe and Alvin control the rights. Can anyone produce a source?
Chuck Nessa
Can anyone supply the tune titles and timings for this material? Thanks.
RDK
Chuck, there's not much info at the easytree link. It only lists "3 songs, 18 minutes"... http://www.easytree.org/torrents-details.php?id=33903

I can download this tonight and send you a copy...

Lazaro Vega
I just e-mailed Charlie Kohlhase alerting him to this thread. We'll see if there's anything he might be able to do in terms of finding the source here....
Chuck Nessa
Great! I want to know the source.
Lazaro Vega
He claims it was years ago from a "tape trader." Who knows. Charlie works at Stereo Jacks where all kinds of jazz heads go to get a fix.
AfricaBrass
Chuck, I think you or Roscoe should get in touch with Easytree. I know they will take an artist off the approved trading list if they want to be removed. It might not be a bad idea to have some of your other artists removed while you're at it. Chuck Nessa
I'd love to. Roscoe called early this morning and we discussed it again. All we need is a pile of money.

Tom in RI
I would imagine the moderators at easytree took it down after reading our own relyles' post that the artist didn't wish the session to be spread. relyles
I would imagine the moderators at easytree took it down after reading our own relyles' post that the artist didn't wish the session to be spread. For what it is worth, after my posts I received a message from the person that uploaded the recording to easytree, Carville, that he was not aware of the dubious source of the recording and that he voluntarily requested the moderators to remove the torrent. Yes, Carville registered here and contacted me via the board to give me the news.
Rooster_Ties
Dare I ask (Chuck) who the trumpet player was on this date?? Though I realize that there are much bigger fish here to fry, than clearing up a discographical uncertainty. (FWIW, I did not download the date, so I'm only asking out of wild curiosity.)
