Stompin at the Savoy Posted December 27, 2025 Report Posted December 27, 2025 (edited) The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries - free if you have Amazon Prime. This is a fun dramatization of Ngaio Marsh's detective novels. The setting has been moved from the 20's to the 40's but the overall look is slightly retro and the costumes, houses, interiors, villages, automobiles etc are beautifully authentic looking. Each program is movie length.   Edited December 27, 2025 by Stompin at the Savoy Quote

I like the fact that he brought almost everyone back that made his movies great (sans John Travolta, but QT had this unusual talent to resurrect careers). IMO, I just didn't feel this movie was great nor neccessary.  Quote

I thought that was weird and it took me out of it unfortunately. Some great performances but low on my list for QT films. On 1/3/2026 at 9:35 AM, Referentzhunter said: This however, was incredible. Eggers is one of my favorite directors and I make sure to catch all of his films. Quote

Masterpiece. I think I had the same problem with Jackie Brown, there was no chemistry, and it dragged on and on; but again, my opinion. I also think Kill Bill should have been one movie with an intermission. I was annoyed I had to go to the movie theater twice to see the movie continue on. Ironically, I liked Vol. 2 more than Vol 1. Quote

It's possible the film doesn't resonate with your personality. I do recommend watching it carefully again if you've only seen it once. You can see it as dragging or as character development and storytelling. Of course, you do have to appreciate the claustophobic and sinister atmosphere here. For me it's a rather lyrical ride but I must say; I've often noticed that opinions on this film differ widely. But i'm certain of my opinion. I've seen it seven times. Still, I respect the fact that there are people who see it differently. 2 hours ago, Holy Ghost said: I think I had the same problem with Jackie Brown, there was no chemistry, and it dragged on and on; but again, my opinion. I also think Kill Bill should have been one movie with an intermission. It got much better as it progressed to the end. Prime Walton Goggins. I will also add a +1 for The Lighthouse, which is directed like a Robert Wilson dialogue (The Old Woman, for example). Surely Eggers is quite familiar with Bob's work, and Dafoe's work in The Old Woman. Quote

Just didn't work for me. Inglorious Bastards and Django (D's silent) Unchaned, besides the obvious Pulp Fiction, honorable mention to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Brad Pitt nailed it in this movie as Leo's sidekick) are my opinion waaaay better QT movies. Quote
