BTW, who is the trumpet (cornet) soloist? I should know who it is, but can't quite place him. Herbie Jones?

Ray Nance.

Allegedly Duke fired Nance due to unreliability. Gonsalves remained!

Thanks. I should have known that was Nance, but it was stuck in my mind that he had left the band by '65. I believe that another reason Nance was let go was because he couldn't get along with Cootie Williams who had rejoined the band in the early '60's. I remember reading or hearing about a major blow-up the two of them had on stage on one of the Asian or Middle Eastern tours. One of them had to go and it wound up being Nance.

Peter Gabriel & Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - Signal to Noise -- from 1996

Edit: Anybody else dig this as much as I do? Hadn't ever seen this performance before. I understand Gabriel rerecorded the track for "Up" (I'll have to dig out my copy and see). Very impressive melding of East and West, IMHO.

The Rolling Stones' Get Off Of My Cloud. I remember hearing this song on a jukebox in Rogers City, Michigan, of all places, in the summer of 1977, when I was 11 years old and had just discovered the first two Ramones' records. This single completely hooked me on the Stones... dig Keith's glasses in the video.
