scottb Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Satin Doll...No Satan's Doll... HELL YEAH! Quote
Joe G Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Buckethead's a trip. Can't believe he actually played in Guns & Roses for a hot second (Axel's failed comeback). Quote
Noj Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 A friend at work gave me one of his albums as a gift. Not my cup of tea, sounded like System Of A Down. Quote
7/4 Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 I really like that tapping bit right before the end. Too cool. One of the more interesting guitar heros. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 The guy is an original, that's for sure. Quote

Bootsy Collins - bass Bernie Worrell - keys Buckethead - guitars Brain - drums Af Next Man Flip (a.k.a. Afrika Babybam) - turntables Bill Laswell - production Highly recomended!!! Jim, Joe, and Randy -- I think most of you'd REALLY dig it. Edited August 24, 2006 by Rooster_Ties Quote
bluesbro Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 I was bored after 2 min. Wonder how much he gets from the KFC endorsment. Quote
Robert J Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 RT - I agree! The last link I posted is Animal Behaviour from that recording. It's a freaky video. Quote
Aggie87 Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 I've got a couple of other Praxis discs (Sacrifist & Zurich) with Buckethead, and dig 'em both. Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Derek Bailey clearly dug him too - Company '91! Quote
GregN Posted August 25, 2006 Author Report Posted August 25, 2006 Greg - try these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTxm7z7ztlA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge8JquM4k4k That is very entertaining! Thanks Robert. His arrangements are quirky, ballsy, and fun. This guy is much more than a gimmic. There is some serious technique going on here. And some interesting arrangements. Plus I think Joe should at least do the break dancing thing. lol Quote
Matthew Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 I'm one of those who never "got" Buckethead at all. Just some guy wanking away on the guitar *yawn*. Quote

Jazz Kat Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 I can't stand these guitarists. They play these really hard riffs and bull shit, that sounds cool for a while, but I just get sick of it. They probaly know nothing about music. Arrg, im gonna go listen to some Metheny. Quote
Joe G Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 I hear you. Doesn't feed me, long term, either. Quote
neveronfriday Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 (edited) Hm. I had a friend way back when, a real dopehead, Dave H. One evening - the guy could hardly stand anymore - he sat down behind my drum kit and contemplated the thing for about 10 minutes. Suddenly, he erupted into an ear-drum shattering explosive solo as only people who have never even touched a musical instrument can. That lasted for about 20 minutes. He then went upstairs and slept for about 16 hours. Dave H. had more music in his body than Buckethead will ever have. Edited September 11, 2006 by neveronfriday Quote

Probably know nothing about music? I think you'd struggle to keep your head above water in the company (for example) of Company '91. Lovens? Thomas? Bailey? Please! If you mean knows nothing about music in a 'schooled' sense - that might (or might not be true) - but you can keep 99% of your 'schooled' players as far as I'm concerned. Quote
scottb Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Whenever these "shredders" come up for discussion, I always think about Joe Satriani. For me he is really THE player that can shred with the best but has so much taste and melodic sense that his music is worth listening to and listening to and listening to. Hill Groove from Strnage Beautiful Music played on my ipod while jogging last night and I think this is one of his best of the best. JS trivia - Joe was Charlie Hunter's guitar teacher back in the day in California. Quote
