Yeah, I watched Dancing With The Stars. Didn't follow all the hoopla, but watched the show (LTB likes watching dancing, and I like spending time with her now more than ever) and enjoyed it. Sue me.

We are going to take dancing lessons at some point in our life.

Anyway, Emmitt was an inspiration, as was, believe it or not, Jerry Springer. Even if Mario was the best dancer (and he was).

I think Emmitt deservedly won first place.

Mario maybe the better technical dancer, but Emmitt added charisma and personality. Technique doesn't win it alone.

I got the feeling that Mario and his partner were enamored with each other. It seemed to interfere with their communication with the audience imo.

I feel that Emmitt and Cheryl communicated better with us.

Agree completely. Plus, I thought it was cute to see Jerry Springer dancing with Emmitt's daughter. :)

Did anyone else see the eye-daggers that Mario's partner was shooting after the winner was announced? She looked madder than Mingus on the cover of MONEY JUNGLE! :g

My wife, in happier times, watched the first season, and I spend time with her and watched it.

I actually enjoyed parts of it, especially watching John O'Hurley (think that's his name).

Absolutely positively hated the host and the judges though. Squirmed my way through it all.

After the first one my wife was no longer interested. . . I got lucky.

This was one of my occasional guilty pleasures. I watched it when I was able but wasn't ever hooked enough to ever tape it or catch the elimination shows.

Props and much respect to Emmitt, but Mario was the better dancer.

I miss Stacy Keibler from last season. I think she was the reason I ever bothered to watch the show.

Naaaah, next year's sweeps week will bring out O.J. Simpson. But then again, getting a dance partner for him could prove to be a challenge! :blink:

I heard he was a killer........dancer.

I dunno; I try to avoid watching these things with Barb. I barely lived past the point during the winter olympics when an inadvertent close up of a figure skaters tush prompted an involuntary "WOOF!!!" from me... :ph34r:

I'm still not down w/the figure skating like LTB is (except during the Olympics, when it's just....there), but the notion of being able to bring to the vertical and public the magic of what we experience in the horizontal - roughly speaking - and private is really beginning to appeal to me. I've never been too graceful on my feet, and dammit, I'm sick of that. This notion that simple grace and joy are for "other types of people" (you know, the stoopid kind who don't know any better) is one which I reject with increasing forcefulness every day. That's a self-fulfilling prophecy of doom and gloom if ever there was one. Fuck that. I'm alive, in love, and not at all ready to go sit in a corner to spectate for the rest of my life. Why shouldn't I dance - and dance well - with the woman I love?

Plus, she gets a glow about her when she sees really good dancing. I can tell that she'd like to experience it herself, and hell, she's done so much for me over the years that I'd like to be able to give that to her while we can both still walk erect and/or without assistance. The time when we won't be able to is probably nearer than it is farther, so....

Besides, if freakin' Jerry Springer can learn to be an at least acceptable "social dancer", then I damn sure can.

Seriously, I've played for dancers all my professional life, and I've seen magic happen with couples on the dance floor. Not as often as I've seen tragedy, but hey...

Point is, I'd like to be able to get some of that kind of magic with my wife while we're still able. I've only danced with her 3-4 time my entire life. That never used to bug me, but now it does.

I wanted an image of the shiny green blouse they dressed Emmitt in the other night. I saw it in the commercial and just shook my head.

I totally get what you're saying about dancing, Jim. I love to dance with the ladies at parties. What's fun for them is fun for me!
