bertrand Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 I believe this Impulse! CD is long OOP - there's one last place I can check. I don't really know Brown's music but I noticed two things: 1) Grachan Moncur III is on it 2) iTunes is selling it for $5.99, which seems reasonable considering there's no artwork etc. How is this record? Does Grachan solo a lot? I'm very tempted. Thanks, Bertrand. Quote
jazzbo Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 (edited) I like it. It's one of my favorite Browns. Not sure how long it's been out of print, not too long I don't think. I'm not a big Moncur fan. . . he has as about as many solos as the other horns if I remember correctly. I sort of tune him out. Edited June 4, 2007 by jazzbo Quote
Big Al Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 MartyJazz put the track "Spooks" on his BFT sometime back, and I regularly play it at maximum volume, as it sounds like Dixieland on speed. I've listened to sound clips from the album, and have determined that this one track is NOTHING like the rest of the album. Mostly free jazz, from what I could tell. I guess it's alright if you like that kind of thing. Unfortunately, I don't; so, you can take this opinion for whatever it's worth. Quote
felser Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 Me too. It's of it's era, mid 60's new thing, but a wonderful example of that genre. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 (edited) Great record... an early favorite from when I was just getting into the music. It's interesting how Brown's work progressed/diverged from this point. Oh, and yeah, Grachan does solo a lot. Edited June 5, 2007 by clifford_thornton Quote
brownie Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 (edited) Damn, you should have had this a long time ago Excellent record. Grachan Moncur's solo on 'Delicado' is one of his best! Edited June 5, 2007 by brownie Quote
bertrand Posted June 5, 2007 Author Report Posted June 5, 2007 You have sold me. I will try to find a 'hardcopy' at one or two places (any leads?), if not, I'll get it from iTunes. Bertrand. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 5, 2007 Report Posted June 5, 2007 There's always eBay... the LP is usually cheap; I assume the CD would be too. Quote
