alocispepraluger102 Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 did albert record the beautiful hymn, 'precious lord, take my hand?' Quote
B. Clugston Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Not that I'm aware of. Ayler's one album of spirituals, Goin' Home aka Swing Low, Sweet Chariot contains: Tracks 1. Goin` Home (4:26) 2. Ol’ Man River (take 2) (5:25) 3. Down By The Riverside (take 6) (4:39) 4. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot (take 3) (4:30) 5. Deep River (4:15) 6. When The Saints Go Marchin’ In (4:12) 7. Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen (4:44) 8. Ol’ Man River (take 1) (3:58) 9. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot (take 1) (4:49) 10. Down By The Riverside (take 5) (4:28) Quote

brownie Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 chewy, these are the various releases of that Ayler session: http://www.ayler.org/albert/html/goin__home.html Quote
B. Clugston Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 hey B, what AA album is this now? never heard of it-- what label now? is it available for order- what years it from? It was on Black Lion. Not sure if it's still available. Don't get too excited. Not a great date, but it has some nice bits. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Isn't this the sme Jan '64 date as Spirits/Witchs & Devils (is there any discography with more confusing name issues than Aylers?)? I've long thought that is sequenced properly a full issue of this date would be quite amzing... Quote
mjzee Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 I personally don't believe the two sessions were recorded on the same day. It doesn't make sense: not just two entirely different set lists, but two different bands. Most probably one of the dates is wrong. Just my personal opinion. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 I believe they were recorded the same day. Quote
Nate Dorward Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 (edited) It was on Black Lion. Not sure if it's still available. Don't get too excited. Not a great date, but it has some nice bits. Actually it's a pretty great date, I think, & it's also decently recorded for a change (by the standards of Ayler's oeuvre). Not his most important work, of course, but still sends plenty of chills down the spine. Edited July 28, 2007 by Nate Dorward Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 I think it is an "interesting" date for historical purposes. If you don't already have 10 Ayler records, skip it and move on. Quote
