Chuck Nessa Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Coupling of two Prestige/OJC discs - "Kirk's Work" and Jaki Byard's "Experience". Two worthy dates. Quote

It appears to be a combination of "Kirk's Work" and "Jacki Byard Experience". Quote
Bright Moments Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 (edited) ah yes i see that now - i have both cd's. interesting that they are marketing it this way. thanks uncle chuck! and BruceM! Edited September 13, 2007 by Bright Moments Quote
JSngry Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Both sides were released, with this title, as a Prestige 2-fer in the old 24000 series. Quote
T.D. Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Didn't Kirk's Work just recently get reissued as a "Prestige RVG"? That really makes me scratch my head about the coupling in question. I wonder whether the Jaki Byard Experience tracks have been remastered, though it's probably not possible to salvage the horrid Richard Alderson-engineered masters. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 IMO, Alderson did just fine... But those are my ESP ears talkin'! Quote
mikeweil Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Didn't Kirk's Work just recently get reissued as a "Prestige RVG"? That really makes me scratch my head about the coupling in question. my thoughts exactly! I wonder whether the Jaki Byard Experience tracks have been remastered, though it's probably not possible to salvage the horrid Richard Alderson-engineered masters. Could be they simply used the mastertape of the 1970's twofer LP - the new people in charge don't know what they're doing! Quote
Swinging Swede Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Let me see if I understand this. The OJC of Kirk's Work has been available since 1991. Then in May 2007 they release an RVG of it. And now, just months later they release it again on a twofer???? You are absolutely right, they obviously have no clue what they are doing. Perhaps someone happened upon the master tapes for the 70s twofers, then compared the titles with a list of the OJC titles, and found that Pre-Rahsaan and the others were titles currently not available, and thought that the jazz community would be very grateful for Concord releasing these previously unavailable titles on CD... If I had a say, Concord would release twofers of still unreissued albums by people like Gene Ammons, Willis Jackson, Don Patterson and Shirley Scott. There is still stuff from in particular the Prestige catalogue that should see the light of day. Quote
Hot Ptah Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Or maybe they know what they are doing, and think that there is a certain number of people who will buy any Rahsaan product they throw out there. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 who's the drummer? ???! Two dates. "Kirk's Work" has AT, "Experience" has Alan Dawson. Quote
Elissa Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 oh - I didn't see your two dates post, just looked at the link briefly, heh. Thanks tho. Quote
