I just thought the vibes/guitar combo might sound interesting. It was also my first Blue Note CD. I had no idea what I was getting myself into... But if memory serves me correctly the first RVG I ever bought was Hank Mobley - Soul Station. Actually, I had several before that because a friend of mine was a Capitol/EMI rep and he used to give me some extra promos he had around. I got there early, so I was able to listen to the whole cd before our session started. Needless to say, I played some interesting solos that night. I soon started buying lots of RVG's simply to stock up on BN 'core catalog' titles that I'd been meaning to get one of these days. Then it got out of hand. I recall looking at the photo of Rudy on the back, and thinking, "If gotta pay $15.99 for a remaster, the least they could do is remove that awful photo of Van Gelder!"
