J.A.W. Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Sorry to disappoint you, but I've seen private sellers at Amazon ask much higher prices for CDs, including jazz. Quote

Dave James Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 I hate to admit this, but about two years ago, I not only came across an outrageous price, I also paid it. It was for a Marty Balin CD called Balince. As I recall, it ran someplace in the neighborhood of $75.00. Gulp...what was I thinking? Up over and out. Quote

A few years ago I'm afraid I paid somewhere around $140 for Braxton's Dortmund. I don't regret it, but I don't think there are many recordings that would fall into that group for me. Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 It was dropped recently ("withdrawn by the manufacturer") but someone in south Florida put out a four track tribute to Gene Harris and Amazon was selling it new. This EP length recording was offered by an Amazon Marketplace seller for $39.95! Quote
BillF Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 (edited) My daughter is currently trying to sell John Graas's Coup de Graas CD on ebay. She reports that someone is asking £156 for the vinyl version! The highest I recall seeing was £1,200 on Amazon for a Bill Evans box set! Someone is currently asking £575.79 for Evans's Turn Out the Stars CD on Amazon! Edited January 2, 2009 by BillF Quote

Royal Oak Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 (edited) On Amazon.co.uk: Bill Evans "Moon Beams" (vinyl) = 500.09 pounds (I can not find the sterling button on this infernal Dell keyboard) Or how about 2 copies of "Cattin' With Coltrane and Quinichette" (CD) - one at 335.49, the other at the bargain price of 300.19. Seriously though, Amazon.co.uk is full of these silly prices, usually the same 5 or 6 US megasellers. While I can't imagine they ever sell stuff at such prices, logic suggests they must get an occasional bite. Edited January 2, 2009 by rdavenport Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Interested parties can find a copy of my Art Ensemble box on Amazon for $349.92 in "like new" condition or for $299.99 for "very good". Is one of these you Lon? Quote
AndrewHill Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Depending on how hard it is to obtain or how bad I want the cd, I usually limit myself to a budget of $30. Quote

JohnJ Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Over the New Year I noticed a Tete Montoliu CD in one of the Tokyo Disk Union shops for the very reasonable price of 105,000 yen (around $1,150 at current exchange rates). I think that is the highest price I have seen there for a single CD (unfortunately I can't recall the title). Quote

It's underpriced!!!! And Allen, what's wrong with it??? It's got the All Star Blue Lou, and a live track of I Found A New Baby with Tommy Dorsey from 1940. I enjoyed it, and got it for a fraction (tiny fraction) of the cost just a few months ago, as you know. Today there's a used copy listed for $11.94. Those amazon marketplace prices are all over the place. The "collectable" is listed for $25, and the "new" hanging tough at $168.55. Here's the description for the new copy: Mint CD - still in shrink wrap! This apparently is the last remaining NEW copy in the free world! This is an extremely RARE collection of important Bunny Berigan performances!! You will be very happy! We guarantee all our products absolutely and will do whatever it takes to make you happy! We practically live in the post office and usually ship same day order is received. Everything comes from a private estate and most are unique one-of-a-kind items! What could go wrong?
