BeBop Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Even with that 120gb iPod, you can't carry your whole collection with you. And heck, even when you've got the whole thing at hand, you may be wishing for something you don't have (yet!). Right now, I'm in want of some Archie Shepp/Richard Davis or NHOP duo stuff and some 8-Bit Operators. Quote
carnivore Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 I wish someone would discover something with Prez soloing before 1936.... an aircheck with Henderson or Oliver ferinstance. Quote
kh1958 Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 It seems like I've been waiting forever for Charles Mingus Live at Ronnie Scott's, originally recorded by Columbia, to be released. Quote
porcy62 Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 The gentle sound of the undertow on a tropical beach and the jingle of the ice cubes in a cocktail shaker, (Angelina Jolie who's preparing my vodka martini ). Quote
Jazzmoose Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Yeah, I was thinking Susan Sarandon moaning like hell as I....well, never mind... Quote
Jazzmoose Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Actually, since I sold most of my CDs, and don't have anything even resembling a decent stereo at the moment, this is probably just the thread for me... I wouldn't mind hearing the Hot Fives & Hot Sevens set to get me going right now. Quote
jostber Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 John Coltrane - Spiritual. I just ordered that today. Quote
Hot Ptah Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 The cassette I taped from the radio of the Mingus Dynasty band at the 1979 Ann Arbor Jazz Festival, which a friend begged me to loan to him. He lost it, or taped over it, or something. He never returned it and was silent when I attempted to discuss it. I probably would have listened to the tape about five times over the years, but its loss means that I have a memory that some of the most amazing music of all time was played in that set. Quote
BeBop Posted April 5, 2009 Author Report Posted April 5, 2009 a new Kraftwerk disc. Always. Only thing better (...along these lines) is an OLD Kraftwerk disc. Quote
fasstrack Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) Any of my LPs or cassettes. I moved recently and still have no turntable, receiver, or speakers. (I sold everything on moving to Holland 2 years ago and lived in a room with my stuff in storage until 2 months ago. No music at home except for the radio or playing myself.) At least I can play CDs and listen through this s$$t speaker in the laptop. It's a start. I want to get Benny Golson's new thing and James Moody/Hank Jones, though. Rooster_Ties Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 How about the Jazz Messengers with Tyrone Washington and Woody Shaw in 1969!! NO tapes have yet surfaced (at least not that I'm aware of), but one could hold out some hope for the Filmore East date (9 days before I was born, by the way). April? 1969: Woody Shaw-tpt; Tyrone Washington-tsx; George Cables-p; Scotty Holt-b Wollman Auditorium, Columbia University, NYC (February 24, 1969) [db 3/20/69 p.15] Loeb Student Center, New York University, NYC (March 3, 1969) [db 3/20/69 p.15] Fillmore East, NYC (March 9, 1969) [db 3/20/69 pp.14, 52] Black Bottom, Montreal, Canada (April? 1969) [Coda 6/69 p.34] Café La Boheme (early April-early May 1969) [Voice] [this is questionable considering the below activity] source Quote
jazzbo Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I wish I could listen to my Bitches Brew SACD. I'm here in Ohio at my parents'. . . and I really just want to listen to that for some reason. Sometimes I just need to hear that music. Quote

mikeweil Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I wish I could listen to the lost 10" Blue Note session of John Collins with Milt Hinton and Kenny Clarke, any time! Quote
ejp626 Posted April 24, 2009 Report Posted April 24, 2009 I want to get Benny Golson's new thing ... You mean New Tet? I've got that. Pretty nice. There's a piece where he explicitly draws on Verdi, and that's pretty cool. I was lucky enough to see him touring in support of this CD. Quote
