randyhersom Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 As I was listening to the first Andrew Hill Mosaic Select this morning, I stumbled on this trivia question. My only answers so far are John Gilmore, Pat Patrick, Don Cherry and Vic Sproles. Enjoy. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Pharoah Sanders Philly Joe Jones Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Didn't Bernard McKinney also work with Ra? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 james spaulding Ah, how could I forget? Quote
tkeith Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 eddie gale Thanks for this -- I was getting edgy the more I read without seeing his name. Quote
jeffcrom Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 There's a drummer named Billy Higgins on Blue Delight. Did he ever make anything of himself? Quote
jeffcrom Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Tommy Turrentine is on that album, too. Quote
AndrewHill Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Didn't Bernard McKinney also work with Ra? Yup, On Futuristic Sounds on Savoy. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 OK, now this is buggin' the hell out of me. Looked last night, and again tonight for a bit -- and every time I think I've found something, somebody else has already mentioned it before in this thread. There have to be a couple more than this, though, right?? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Ronnie Boykins I don't think so. I can't find any BN date he actually plays on (he not listed anywhere in the index of the big BN discography I've got). Now Horace Parlin DID record the Boykins tune "Home is Africa" -- but Boykins wasn't on the date. Quote
Niko Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 yusef lateef (this session is listed by robert cambell http://hubcap.clemson.edu/~campber/sunra.html don't know if it counts as having recorded with ra...) randyhersom Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 I was surprised not to find any Blue Notes with Bob Cunningham with a quick google. Cunningham and Boykins were the two I thought likely, but not confirmed. Quote
randyhersom Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 I did go looking for Charles Davis and found only Eddie Gale - where Charles Davis was one of the Noble Gale Singers. I decided that was unlikely to be the same Charles Davis. Is there a Blue Note with Charles Davis playing (baritone) sax? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Every time I think I've found another one -- I find the name already posted in this thread. Drat!! Lex Humphries Quote
