Rooster_Ties Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 (edited) Thinking of putting together a little Tyrone Washington CD compilation for myself, and wondered what all pics might be out there of the man. I don't own all the BN photography books personally -- I don't suppose there's any with a shutter-date of the infamous "Trainwreck" session by any chance?? (And that date is: August 16, 1968.) (I'm afraid I don't have a scanner either, so if anyone has any TW pics that we can't already find on-line, and if you wouldn't mind scanning an uploading them -- thanks in advance!!) Here's a rare one, to get us started -- the "Jody Grind" quintet... L>R: Tyrone, Woody, Roger Humphries, Larry Ridley and Horace. (source) Edited June 28, 2009 by Rooster_Ties Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted June 28, 2009 Author Report Posted June 28, 2009 Shot of him inside the Jody Grind gatefold. Didn't know that, thanks Chuck. Can anybody provide a scan or pic? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted June 28, 2009 Author Report Posted June 28, 2009 (edited) Thanks Chuck!! Any others, anyone? Searching around on-line, here's a B&W version of the photo from Natural Essence, but without the NE cover typography. Hadn't ever seen it before, and judging from the square cropping of it, I suspect there's a larger and more complete version out there somewhere. also Edited June 29, 2009 by Rooster_Ties Quote
medjuck Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 I just checked the large format Francis Wolf book and there's no photograph of Washington there, nor is there one in the Blue Note Album Cover Art book. Quote
Dan Gould Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Sorry its off-center but I did the best I could with the scanner. Woody and Tyrone, from Horace Silver's autobiography. No other info found. Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 also Why don't you contact Barbara Washington Franklin - if she's still alive, that is? Upon discovering her book earlier today (and the Tyrone reference), that thought had crossed my mind. Quote
Niko Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 (edited) also Why don't you contact Barbara Washington Franklin - if she's still alive, that is? Upon discovering her book earlier today (and the Tyrone reference), that thought had crossed my mind. three weeks ago she still gave a talk on "becoming a woman of influence", so i guess chances are pretty good... http://bridgewaywomen.com/yahoo_site_admin...ts.81171401.pdf on the book's final pages there's a phone number, email address... and a little bit about her family background... (btw, tyrone washington being the anticipated answer to a question in class seems rather unlikely... ) her late husband http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2004Aug26.html to collect this before it gets lost: barbara was tyrone's older sister, born in blakely georgia; at age six she already lived in newark; their mother was eunice vetta ross washington...
