srellek Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 Maybe this has been done before here, but was thinking about the greatest group I would assemble of players still around today. How about: Sonny Rollins (ts) Ornette Coleman (as) Paul Bley or Keith Jarrett (p) Charlie Haden (b) Roy Haynes or Paul Motian (dr) Just couldn't make up my mind on the piano and drum chairs. (How's that for decisiveness?) Anybody else have a dream team of cats still on the planet? Quote
randyhersom Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Clark Terry (t) Pat Martino (g) Jim Hall, Cecil Taylor and Evan Parker could all be considered. The trumpet ranks are a bit depleted, perhaps Charles Tolliver or Bobby Bradford can give Clark a break if needed. Quote
tranemonk Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Have we forgotten... Lee Konitz on Alto... Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 konitz, ornette, rollins - any two of these would probably be great, all three maybe not? my time machine/lost tapes fantasy would involve Rollins & Lee Morgan together, or Lou D, Stanley T, Grant G, John P & Idris M, or Lester & Gil Evans, or? The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Here's one. Lonnie Smith - org Melvin Sparks - g Alvin Queen - d Here's one they've already done MG Quote
tranemonk Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Not sure who that is... but what about Curtis Fuller...??? on trombone: not to mention McCoy Tyner.. (sorry I might have to put him ahead of Jarrett....) :blush2: Quote
Chas Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Well, this one's fantastical in the sense that one of the guys hasn't played out in decades, and one has moved away from straight-ahead jazz, but how about : Frank Strozier with Eddy Louiss, Kenny Burrell and Jimmy Cobb ? Quote
AllenLowe Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 yes, it's Roswell at a session from last year - Quote
papsrus Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 Are recording studios typically kept chilly? Or is Mr. Rudd just being fashionable? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 I would enjoy hearing Rudd and Rollins together, especially circa the mid 1960s. Quote
JSngry Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 I would say Bird & Sonny Murray, but we already got Jimmy Lyons & Sonny Murray, so why bother with finding some dead guy and bringing him back to life, as well as taking some living guy and then transporting them both back more than 45 years in time (as opposed to 45 years in BTUs)? Too much math for R&B! Quote
