ghost of miles Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 I just noticed that reports now say it's in all 50 states. We've had a couple of people at work go down already... looks like I picked a bad year to miss my flu shot. Quote

We've had a couple of people at work go down already... looks like I picked a bad year to miss my flu shot. I came down with my first cold in three years Friday. I think that was it. Wash yer hands a lot, change yer diet (no carbs!), don't use public transportation and if you have kids, quarentine them to isolate the virus. Quote
slsmcgrew Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 I got that crappy flu which has now turned into pneumonia. Finally went to my medical office and got put on heavy duty medication and cough medicine with narcotics in it so I could get some sleep. It wouldn't have been so bad but I'm moving in less than two weeks and it put a halt to almost everything I've been trying to get done for the move. Quote

My first reaction was "I don't have time for this crap!". Quote
Guest Chaney Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Hasn't hit me yet or anyone that I've come in contact with -- I HOPE -- but I'm visiting my doctor tomorrow and amongst my laundry list of ailments will be my question as to the necessity of my getting the vaccine. Quote

I think that the flu manifests itself in multiple viruses and the chances that a particular virus might be covered by a vaccine is remote. Any medical people here to shed light on this? Quote
wesbed Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 I had my flu shot in October. I've not been sick (yet!). I often wonder if the flu shot does anything. I always get a flu shot because it's free of charge (via my employer) and it has no negative side effects (for me). I've read there are so many variations of viruses, every year, that the flu shot may help and may not. If you should come into contact with the flu, the flu shot may save you a lot of aggravation and misery. Otherwise, the shot may do nothing. I've read all kinds of reports, this year, that the flu is much worse than normal. In the small world in which I work and live, I don't see any more people sick this year than any other year. I wonder if the flu really is worse this year? Has the press/media only talked about it more this year? We hear more about the flu, we become more aware of it, and it seems it's everywhere, out of control. I wonder how many people would notice a difference in the flu, this year, if not for the widespread coverage offered by the mass media? With my rotten luck, I'll awake with the first symptoms of a viral infection tomorrow morning. Quote
jacman Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 the flu strain out there now is the A-Fujian which is NOT covered in the flu shot. the CDC thinks it MIGHT help. my 2 kids and i are just now getting over it. personally i'm reluctant to get vaccinated. seen to many bad thing...remember SWINE FLU? the shot was worse than the disease. Jim Alfredson Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 I had it last Sunday thru Monday. Not a bad case... I was out for all of Sunday and most of Monday with nausea and body aches. Luckily my wife, who is five months pregnant, did not come down with it! Quote
chris olivarez Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 I've had people who I work with get nailed by it but it hasn't hit me yet and I hope that it stays that way. Quote
couw Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 I spent a night bading in sweat. After that things were more or less okay (save for feeling rather tired) Is this a worldwide thing? Quote
JSngry Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 I've had something in me trying to grab hold and hunker down for about three weeks now, but so far, the only damage has been a general and constant feeling that something ain't right. And Lord knows I'm plenty used to that in some form or fashion... My son had it a few weeks ago though. NASTY stuff... Quote
catesta Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 I have something right now, but hopefully it's just a cold. A few people that work for me have had it, or at least say they have. Quote
BeBop Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 About half my crew has been out for at least a portion of the past two weeks. So we're all sweating it out - half literally, half figuratively. Quote
sidewinder Posted December 15, 2003 Report Posted December 15, 2003 I've had it and I ended up losing my voice. Terrible chest infection, over 3 weeks now and still not fully cleared. Not nice.. Quote
