Dan Gould Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Sad news. Well, he had a pretty long run! A really long run, amazing to see him still out there so recently. RIP. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Wow. Sad news. RIP, Mr. Perkins, and glad you were here to grace us for so long. Quote
LWayne Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 Always enjoyed hearing him live. A great musician and a great man as well. RIP my friend LWayne Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 97 years old. He lived a long life. RIP Mr. Perkins. Quote
paul secor Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 97 years old. He lived a long life. RIP Mr. Perkins. That's a long life - and one that probably wasn't easy. Quote
Dan Gould Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 And yet professionally it only got better in the last 20 years or so. He started recording as a leader, won a Grammy and I am sure he travelled quite a bit too. Good things come to those who wait And I’ve waited a long time I’m a blues man but a good man, understand Quote
Hot Ptah Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 I saw him live outdoors at the Kansas City Blues and Jazz Festival, within a year or two of the year 2000. He was very compelling and enjoyable. I also liked his dark green formal men's hat. A real "pine top". I thought that showed a nice sense of humor. Quote
John L Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 RIP, Pinetop Perkins, virtually the last of his generation of golden age Chicago bluesmen. Quote
paul secor Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Honeyboy Edwards is probably the last of that generation of bluesmen. BB's there too, but he's a youngster compared to Pinetop and Honeyboy. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Here's something I did for the Austinist. Too many obits these days; thankfully I rarely write them myself. Quote
