Valerie Wilmer introduced us in the '70, and I got to know Joe Lee fairly well (the only jazz musician I knew of in New York who got around on a bicycle). A very down-to-earth guy. This is sad news, indeed.

Sorry to hear this - RIP. :(

Sounds like a great guy. Never realised he lived in latter years in Brighton, either.

His version of Charles Greenlee's Crucificado which I knew in an instrumental version from the Archie Shepp Montreux Freedoms was always a favorite and I've collected and followed ever since so this loss is right up there with Walt Dickerson and Max Roach for me.
