About a year ago I noticed my without glasses vision improving. I thought "this can't be good." Sure enough my eye Dr. told me I have the beginnings of a cataract but he would wait until it was "ripe" before any surgery. He told me the surgery was now very simple with no after effects. Quote

For some reason I had a suspicion (turned out to be correct) that improving vision meant something (like a cataract) was acting like a lens. So far I'm getting no negative effect. The cataract is not coloring my vision but the eye with the cataract is now nearly 20/20 and my glasses are weird. Almost no rx in one eye and a strong Rx in the other. I'm lucky that works for me. The doc told me that there was a good chance it wouldn't and that would necessitate the cataract surgery. Quote

I have glaucoma and macular degeneration to look forward to potentially. Genetics are no laughing matter. Quote

Chose the lens which gives me good distance sight, so now wear tri-focals for a tweak at distance, focus at mid range and the ability to read. Walking down stairs can be tricky if I have on my most rectangular glasses. A few months after the surgery had to go back in for a laser zap as things were fogging over again. Since then, no problems, except when I get real high and drive at night, then there are rainbows and little bears and these floating chameleons in my vision, which cause me to weave like that grinning Dean Moriarity. Hot Ptah Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Chuck, About ten years ago I had cataract surgery on both eyes. The surgeon took out my lenses and implanted artificial lenses. This had the side effect of giving me 20/20 vision, after decades of having to wear very thick glasses. During the cataract surgery, while my lens was removed, I saw the most wonderful colors. It can't really be described, but it was truly amazing. I remember thinking at the time, the special color effects at the end of the film "2001" are nothing compared to this. Seeing those colors was really one of the most memorable moments of my life. Then when I had my other eye done, I saw the colors again. Did you see the colors, Chuck? Quote
