Does anybody know what this song is about or what Duke Jordan was thinking about when he wrote it. I would definetly like to find out. I am researching it as we speak. The original title of that composition was Minor Encamp. He recorded this for the first time - under its original title- in January 1954 in New York. In places it's a bit tricky to sing - the sixteenth-note triplets above all - but the words do precisely fit the melody (the word 'individual' has to be regarded as four syllables: in-di-vid-yal). Just in case you don't know the album, one of the best lyric lines written to a jazz solo is Med Flory's version of the Parker solo on 'Ko Ko' (Supersax and L.A. Voices album). Mind-blowing!
