Innocently picked a collection of Jayne Cortez poems off the used bookstore shelf today. Opened the book, and right there on the page in front of me, I found myself described in the poem JOHNNY BLOWING AND POINTING HIS MACHETE:

Johnny

checking his watch and

clapping in time with

piano player's bouncing shoulders

Johnny

dancing with his saxophone

together they are foreshadowing paraphrasing and shadow boxing

(continues)

There are references to the Blue Note and a tune of Griff's we used to play, "You've Never Been There."

She must have been in the club one night.

Now to continue on a topic that probably belongs in the "Weird Shit Happens" thread if there is one:

Earlier today at Barry Harris' house I asked him for help on today's NYTimes crossword for a clue, "With lots of animal fat" or something like that. So Barry told me the word "suet", which I wasn't familiar with. He said, "grab that dictionary over there." I reach over to this fat dictionary with over 1,000 pages. I open the book at random, and right on the page in front of me is the word SUET.
